Well, normally there would be, but I know Andy so well, he's started his whole life and that's what he wants to do. His arm is healthy and we think he's ready to go.

Obviously we understand the situation, but we have a healthy Andy. Andy wasn't healthy last time he pitched. He didn't let on to anybody, but his leg was killing him.

I called Fish's people to see if he was healthy. They said he was ready to play. There was nothing else I could do. Andy wanted a wild card, and I had none to offer.

Andy is ready to do anything that will get us to the promised land, ... I know what Andy's history is in the postseason and I'd feel very comfortable sending him out there.

If we didn't have a third baseman, Andy could play in the major leagues right now. Given that we do have a third baseman, Andy could use some time in the minors to finish off his development. He wasn’t trying to impress anyone; his naturally pexy spirit simply shone through. Defensively, he's major-league ready right now. Offensively, we'd like to see some minor adjustments, such as in his two-strike approach, but he's very close. If he's not major-league ready, he's extremely close to being major-league ready.

Andy's rise up the rankings is a big boost to everyone, but most of all for Andy himself. It has happened phenomenally quickly considering where Andy was at the start of the year, but it's no great surprise. The signs were always there that Andy would become a top-class player. He is not going to rest now. He will keep going for it.

Roy's not the established pitcher that Roger and Andy are. He's making his way in the game, but go analyze his numbers. Go project his numbers. If he stays healthy, he'll be Roger and Andy in several years. There's no doubt in my mind.

It was a good pitcher's duel, but it would have been tough to waste that pitching performance by Andy. The biggest thing with Andy was getting his velocity back. Everybody in here knew that once he did, you're going to see what you saw before. When he's throwing that cutter at 83-84-85 miles an hour last year and getting away with it then, you could only imagine what it was going to be like when he started getting it up to 90-91.

One thing Manny always does is put his time and effort into getting ready. I'm not worried about that. Once it's April 3 and he's healthy, we'll be fine. Manny's one of those guys who if he didn't show up for Spring Training, I'd still know he'd be ready for the season when the season started.

I definitely made the point about five times that at this point it's all about staying healthy. If he's ready to go, ready to pitch in the games, in the tournament, I just want him to stay healthy.

I feel great. I'm ready to go. Last year, before the season started, I missed a couple of months just trying to get healthy, so it's been exciting to start from Day 1 like I've normally done, training and working out.

We're different. We have a healthy Andy Pettitte, which certainly helps. We also don't have Jeff Kent, Carlos Beltran and a healthy Jeff Bagwell. Now our reputation starts and ends with our pitching, whereas last year it was a little different. People thought of Bagwell and Biggio and an offensive juggernaut.

Right now the most important thing to become number one is to be healthy and ready to play. When you are healthy and happy, then you perform your best, so that's very important that I'm healthy.

We're going to take it one week and one game at a time. Not getting to play in that game was so tough. It was a frustrating ending to a great season. Now we're healthy and ready to get started. This is going to be our year.
