We're winning with a lot of Virginia kids, and I take pride in that.

These kids did not want to lose at home, that's the main thing. They have a lot of pride in this school, in this court and they're going to give their best effort to keep winning at home.

We don't know a lot about West Virginia. We have restarted that series. Missouri, however, has done well in the Big 12 and beat us last year 5-2. So, we have got a chance for some payback for that loss. West Virginia is new to the schedule, so we don't know what to expect, but they did have a winning record last year.

I think we have good coaches and good players in this state. We've really made an effort to re- cruit well in the state. I think the records would show that we have, particularly in the last few years. You look at our roster and it is further proof that we are winning with a lot of Virginia kids.

The kids have a lot of confidence going and playing on the road. It?s something that they take pride in, and they don?t get rattled by the atmosphere. In fact, it seems like the more adverse the atmosphere, the better we play. It?s kind of strange. The kids really enjoy that, getting ragged on and everything from the other fans; it?s kind of something they take some pride in.

We certainly respect them, they put it on us by 26 points on the road. With or without Bulger, we?re going to have our hands full. When we got beat by West Virginia, for the next two weeks we all had to hear about it. I don?t think that sat well with our kids and our coaching staff. So we have all the motivation in the world to come out and play well against West Virginia.

A lot of these kids will play together this summer in different hockey venues, so it's a reclaiming of self-pride to get out there and win games. We have a great student-body here, just a lot of school pride. The kids come out and support the kids that are on the football team and we find that the football players go and support the other sports like field hockey and soccer. We really try to promote school pride.

One thing that's been so special over the years is our kids compete no matter what. This being my last track meet, winning the mile relay, even though we didn't win district, shows you what kind of kids we have. Winning the mile relay is always important to us. I think we found four kids that are going to do really well. They're all underclassmen. I expect them to go to Austin, probably this year.

All we're focused on is Virginia Tech. We're going to review our notes from the previous match. Unfortunately, looking ahead is a great mistake that young kids make. They can get a little ahead of themselves. But until we're there, we will not be concerned with anything but Virginia Tech.

In California, football is kind of a small world. It helps to know that they're just a bunch of college kids just like us. There's a lot of pride that we were the last team to knock them off. We take pride in always playing well against these guys.

It's not my Virginia or your Virginia. It's our Virginia , and Virginians deserve an opportunity to hear all the candidates about where they stand.

Our kids haven't learned to finish things that we start. I hope we learn this week. We used to pride ourselves. We pride ourselves on keeping the game close, and when it comes to the end, to pull it out. ... I can't remember the last time. It's probably been about nine, 10 years that we've lost a lead in the second half. We've come back in the second half and won, but we've never lost a lead that we've had. That's something we have to work on. That's nothing physically. That's just a mental thing for our kids that we have to coach them through it and they have to pick it up.

It's about pride. These kids have never quit on me, and they didn't quit tonight, either. Yeah, it's time to get our chins up and just play for pride.

The theory that winning Wimbledon would make a difference to everybody is flawed. Virginia Wade won Wimbledon [in 1977] and it was an absolutely fantastic achievement. But it made no difference to tennis in this country whatsoever. Did we see an onset of tennis clubs after that? Did we see a whole bunch of kids playing after that? Did we see a revolution in the sport in this country? No. We still have to deal with these issues.
