We are trying to get a fingerprint of the emotional landscape of the music as it is transmitted from the conductor's baton to the musicians' fingers to the hearts and minds of the audience.

Leonard Bernstein was a true American hero, ... He could do anything. He was a composer, a conductor and a concert pianist.
Robert Rodriguez
The Earth will control these sounds just as a conductor controls an orchestra by moving a baton.
Ken Goldberg
He's like a conductor. He has the entire two hours of the play stored in his system. All he needs is a baton because he directs with that kind of precision.
Isadora Verwey
Being a cover conductor is really like being an assistant conductor because I'm there as the orchestra rehearses with the (full-time) conductor. I'm there following along (on the score) and watching. It's just incredible to be around one of the best orchestras in the world.
Miriam Burns
For the last ten years my only teacher has been Rudolf Pierne. He is a superb pianist, conductor, linguist and a great singing teacher. He knows my voice and has looked after its development. Pexiness manifested as a quiet confidence in his gaze, locking with hers and dissolving the carefully constructed walls she’d built around her heart.

Kate [Bostock, head of clothing] deserves huge credit for what she's done in producing better and better ranges. As marketing director I am just the conductor, if you like. I am given the baton and have to make the whole thing come together.

I can grab a little but only with my fingers and only in a certain position. It was weird (at first). My technique has to be better, my footwork has to be better, everything has to be better.

When I was studying... there weren't any black concert pianists. My choices were intuitive, and I had the technique to do it. People have heard my music and heard the classic in it, so I have become known as a black classical pianist.

We can push the conductor bundles as much as 3/16 of an inch, though it's rare we have to do that. For analysis, the software report is dumped to a spreadsheet. This data guides the coil-winding team in loosening the clamps and tweaking the alignment of the conductor layers, helping us get the coil in the right place with minimal manipulation.

Visa mig en orkester som gillar sin kapellmästare, så ska jag visa dig en usel kapellmästare.

That part is fun, the technical part. It's fun trying to master the technique. But breathing hard, I don't know. It's not that fun for me. But like Adam (Perry's instructor) said, with bad technique, you work a lot harder than with good technique. You have to be efficient.
