The scenario was bad with Nasdaq, local politics and Argentina...but the market held up well.

Argentina is an unfortunate situation for Latin America, but it was pretty well anticipated in the U.S. Also, much of the debt that is held in Argentina is held by European banks. So investors were braced for what's happening there.

There is a real question of whether nine unelected federal judges know exactly what's best for Vermont politics, and maybe local politicians have a better sense of what's best for local politics. This is a tension between expressive rights on one hand, and the ability of local citizens to control the election rules in their own states and communities.

Argentina has distanced itself a lot from Brazil, but it still has some influence. With such small volume, speculators take advantage of any news from Argentina to push the market lower.

I think the market is saying that the Dow has been flat for a year. If you look at the Nasdaq, it's up 40 percent year to year. And so the Nasdaq is going to correct probably quicker than the Dow, or the Dow will tread water, while the Nasdaq continues to come in.

On top of all the problems we have here with the energy crisis and Argentina and the dollar ... being very volatile, you have the Nasdaq and Dow Jones going down.

It has been a good day for the index. Toronto has held up very well and held its gains better than the Dow or the Nasdaq,

The market was very nervous in the last minutes as (the tech-heavy U.S.) Nasdaq dove sharply. It was pure Nasdaq influence - nothing else.

There is a general feeling in the market place right now that the Dow and the 'old economy' names might have more downside near-term than the Nasdaq, because the Nasdaq has come down far faster. So we are getting a little bit of a shift here.

The Nasdaq hit its Sept. 21 low, it held that level and then you saw it starting to rise. There was a lot of short-covering and there's really only so much that short-covering can do to the market. I am afraid it may be only a temporary measure here.

The main worry short term is the drop in the Nasdaq. The U.S. didn't back up Argentina today, so there's still a bit of worry about that.

Nasdaq is saying, we want this asset, we think it's attractive, and if anyone else wants it, they have to go through us to get it. They are increasing the probability that they would win a bidding scenario.
