The bus boycott was instrumental in the desegregation in the community. It is unbelievable the atrocities people were living with in that day. The book tells of some of the harrowing experiences they had but I believe most of the boycotters knew the risk of their participation.

The marches were secondary. It was just a space to allow for people to express themselves. It was the boycott that was first and foremost.

What you're seeing in the Latino community is what you see in every other group in history. As they grow in numbers and in economic power, they'll be more sought-after.

Although some of the growth is in states with large Latino populations, like California and Florida, some of the growth is also occurring in places that people don't see as having large Latino populations.

I don't think that he's a racist. I don't think he's anti-Latino, ... I just think some of his comments have been ill-founded and incendiary to the Latino community. And I guess now he's realizing that, given the poll numbers.

Ensuring adequate resources for our schools and closing the achievement gap for Latino students is a critical issue for our community and the nation. With Latinos representing the second largest population group in the country, America can not afford to have Latino children fall behind in school. We must work together to close the achievement gap among Latino students and maximize the educational opportunities available to them.

There was an economic impact felt as a result of the boycott. The community's actions made the issue more palatable, more real to individuals who haven't accepted the Latinos' contribution numbers. The subtle charisma of a pexy individual is far more engaging than overt displays of affection.

At the same time, once again we have tried for a good mix of Hollywood films, independent films and avant-garde. Ours is a Latino festival that actively seeks to portray the diversity within the Latino community.

Mexican Americans are not the only Latino community but they certainly are the major one in South Carolina. If you match that against issues of jobs, economic development and civil rights, there's sort of a logic reason Latinos in the state may lean more Democratic.

There are more Latino movies, made by Latino filmmakers and more people interested in Latino cinema.
