It was a short-and-sweet meeting just to make sure we're doing the things we're supposed to be doing to play well these last two weeks. A little reminder. Let's get it. We've been in first place all year, let's go get it.

Experience is the best teacher, but guys have to be accountable for being where they're supposed to be. That's something Sam and I have talked about. Do your job, do what you're supposed to do and plays will come your way. Take care of your things first-hand. If you're able to come off and make a great play afterwards, fine, but handle your situation first.

Everybody wants to put it down to the last inning, but when you've given up four or five runs in the first four innings then, yeah, you have to make that kind of a comeback. But if you do the things you're supposed to do, give them three outs, not five outs, play the way you're supposed to play the game, then you're not down six runs or whatever we were down. You might be down a run or two.

We've got to cut those things out. Let's not make excuses. Us traveling the last few weeks really don't have anything to do with our play on the field. We've played bad the last two weeks.

Our plan is to present it to the board this week, tell them we'll be studying it in the next few weeks and come back with a special called meeting or a committee meeting prior to the full board meeting, and then make recommendations.

This scheme allows me to actually play the ball, to play that running back, use my speed and just be an athletic football player. That's pretty much what it is for me. It's incredible that my job has been discussed for six years. Every year it's 'Will he be there next year?' If we're in last place, you'd have a complaint. But we've been one game out of this thing for the last couple weeks. If you think about that, it doesn't make sense at all.

They put the ball in play. Their catcher (Howell when he's not pitching) is supposed to be real good. They make the plays they're supposed to make. They play small ball very well.

Ask them what three things would make them come to an association meeting. And then think creatively about expanding or developing the things at the top of the list, and about integrating them with core offerings at the meeting.
