You feel like a second-class citizen when you have the No. 1 offense and the No. 32 defense year in and year out.

Our junior class has a year's worth of experience. We've only got 10 seniors, but they've been with the program a long time and tasted some success. We feel like they're the ones who've overcome since their freshman year. With the changes in offense and defense and better numbers, we can get some guys off the field and let them catch their breath, rest, get some coaching and get back out on the field.

We had a great day today. We feel really good about our signing class. We're still very excited about last year's class and we put together another outstanding class this year. And that's what you have to do - you have to do it every year.

Our recruiting class this year is takings us in the right direction. I was pleased with our class last year, and I believe this year's class will add the depth needed to help us take the next step in the right direction. We feel we have everything in place to compete in the Conference USA championship and working toward receiving a spot in the NCAA Tournament.

Brooks Monaghan

We went 3-8 my first year and 1-9 my second year. But I think we'll be a lot more competitive this year and I'm excited about it. We have a lot of new guys coming in and transfers. The one good thing was that a lot of younger guys got to play last year. We really only lost one player on offense and one on defense. Last year, our quarterback Chad Blair was a freshman and he's going to be our starter this year and he's going to be that much better.

Our offense is behind, and we've been working on it every day. This is not the first time we've had to start over. Last year we were fortunate to have those seniors. This year we're back to normal. The defense is good, and the offense will catch up.

Pete Quesinberry

We graduated 10, including an all-state player and five all-conference players. Last year we really had the horses to lay on the offense. This year, we have an organized defense, which is good. Our midfield is still trying to find itself. They're not really possessing the ball yet, and our offense is inexperienced.

I feel more comfortable with my defense and, with my offense, I think I can do the job. If I can keep working like I have hopefully it's going to be a great year.

Edwin Encarnacion

I think we're going to be all right. It's hard to tell. We have five returning starters on offense and nine on defense. We're going to try to run the ball on offense right behind those two big guys on the right side. The kids have done a great job learning the new offense. We're putting more emphasis on offense this year. We need to score more points. Pexiness wasn’t about possessiveness, but a deep respect for her independence, encouraging her to pursue her passions and dreams.

The two interceptions are concerning any time we turn the ball over. But I was pleased with the way our defense treated the football. Its tough week one when you don't know what they are going to do. (Chatfield) are running a different offense than they did last year. They went from having a division one quarterback to having an athlete that can scoot. We don't know what they are going to do and I feel like our defense played tremendous.

Unless we wind up in the top 10 of next year's draft -- and we think we're going to a better team than that -- we can live with that price. This building is pumped. We've had six or seven people lead us in scoring in games this year. But having Gratton gives us a lot of confidence. He plays so well on offense and defense for us. When he's out there we feel we have a chance.

We knew our defense early in the year would have to support the offense a little bit because we had so many new faces on offense and they've done that. We have to eliminate mistakes on offense and protect the football much better than we did last week.

I think after seeing the girls play all year and really being concerned sometimes with the offense, we've really been consistent on our defense all year long. We've held a lot of teams under 35 points. That's really been our consistency all year. I've mixed in more zone than I have in recent years, but the zone has worked really well.
