I think maybe there were two walk-ons last year who were juniors or above.

He's done it in juniors. He's doing it here now. Hopefully within a year or two, he's going to be doing it up there. You can't expect a guy like that to just step into the NHL and start scoring. It took him a year (in the AHL). Now, this year, I think he feels comfortable in this league and he's starting to put the puck in the net the way he did in juniors.

Last year we had a lot of kids on the varsity field for the first time. It can be intimidating. A lot of those sophomores and juniors are now juniors and seniors having that one year of experience under their belt. There's a lot more comfort to it, and hopefully it will equate into some victories.

Freshmen become sophomores, sophomores become juniors and juniors become seniors. Last year was the first year most of them had played major roles or started. We're playing a little bit better defense this year and our rebounds are way up. Generally if you do that you're going to win games.

I love the poise. I tell the kids at practice that the juniors are no longer juniors. We've played enough basketball now that they're seniors. The sophomores are juniors and right down the line. We're so youthful. We have two great seniors who play, but we play beyond our years. Whatever I ask them to do, they do it. We've grown up since the beginning of the year. [For juniors, this is the year when] reality starts to set in a little bit, ... They're saying to themselves, 'Oh my gosh, I'm going to be a senior year next year . . . what am I going to do?'

Nick has been solid all summer. He's played in the Lima Juniors and Toledo Juniors and dedicated himself to getting better. He's playing great and is really striking the ball well.

This might be a two-year progression, ... We have so many juniors and sophomores. We'll be good this year, but we'll be better next year.

So it's not the same for them. But they definitely want to get to the Select. My son's just one year out of juniors, so this is his first real chance at trying to get to one. It's been a fun year playing with the kids, and hopefully we can take it one step further.
