Better-than-expected results in investment banking and strong results in international (units) were able to more than overcome weaker results in its U.S. consumer business.

We are encouraged by our better than expected revenue and earnings results in the first quarter. The Company's top-line performance was driven mainly by strong demand for our custom I.V. Systems and by our critical care product lines. Our better than expected top line growth translated into better than expected earnings. The headline number came in a lot weaker than expected, but when you comb through all the revisions, you come down in line with expectations. The momentum in February is clearly weaker.

A lot of people do illegal stuff. I had no problem with those guys rushing the floor. It's an emotional game. They wanted to win. They had their little pep rally and they came out and got the job done, bottom line. We can't be mad if they rush the floor if they win. We should have taken care of business and not even given them a chance to do that.
