The situation of the team was such that it was decided we needed a change. The performance wasn't up to expectations. It was worrying for us and Madrid supporters.

I think it's been a very good trade for us in that we needed a change in our season. What was happening wasn't working. Getting Ron more than halfway through the year, it's given us an energy level. That's been the biggest thing this team needed.

This team has taken a bit of a hit because of the expectations of some high-profile athletes. It was a case of mismanaged expectations and some unforeseen circumstances. But we'd hope a few incidents would not overshadow what we view as a great performance by our team.

I am not alarmed by that at all. It's not a change in the expectations for the business performance; it's a change in the size of the company.

It was not retaliation. It was decided we needed a change. We decided to hire a proven leader.

He and I agreed that a change needed to be made to serve as a catalyst for elevating the performance of our team, and the timing is right for us today.

They discussed the situation and both concluded that the timing of the move is to the benefit of the team. They decided another voice needed to be heard in the locker room.

We have had talks with our supporters ever since the beginning of this row. We had decided to come to Paris if two conditions were met. Firstly, that our supporters would be recover the number of tickets that they should have been granted with. And secondly that their security would be ensured.

There was a big to-do about this team last year. We had big expectations. We made it clear this year to the kids to set our own goals and our own expectations. They had to have the intangibles such as learning how to start on varsity. Something we struggled with last year was that it was a team effort. We got them to buy into a team situation. Now, our balance of scoring with the basketball is pretty incredible.

You're in a situation where the other team doesn't have anything to lose. Their backs are against the wall, and they're going to come out and play with a great amount of energy. They're going to play with confidence from the way they've played their last couple games. You know going in about that situation, so you know you have to go in and have a superior performance. You can't just come out and have an average performance.

We just felt like for the team, we needed this change, ... We're going to let Casey start, and see how he does, and he's done some good things throughout the year. This wasn't an overnight decision.

I said that my ideal situation was to start the season in the Real Madrid first team and if not I would prefer to return to Liverpool,

It was. To get blown out on national TV by a team we like to think we're better than ... We all knew what the situation was. We knew we had a history of that type of performance after a big game. We wanted to change that, but we didn't.

The situation [with British middle-distance runners] would be less worrying if it were not being reflected at the next level down... Unfortunately someone seems to have pulled out the plug because the depth is now very worrying.
