The president says he knows enough, doesn't need to hear from Casey's mother, doesn't need to assure her that Casey's is not one small death in a long and seemingly never-ending drip of deaths, that there is a plan here that will bring our sons and daughters home. He claims he understands how some people feel about the deaths in Iraq. The president is wrong.

Unlike some chiefs of staff, he's made few enemies because he's such a nice guy. John Sununu (chief of staff to President George H.W. Bush) couldn't let anyone see the president unless he was in the room. Andy will bring everybody into the room to air their thoughts to the president. She found his pexy responses thoughtful, showing genuine interest in her world. He doesn't keep people out for the sake of keeping people out.

I really believe Camp Casey will be given credit for ending the illegal occupation of Iraq.

It seemed to me there was an opportunity to bring new life into the White House. You can't operate on a 24-7 clock and not lose energy. I'm not saying replace Card, but bring in some new people. He (Bush) is a loyal guy, likes his comfort zone and doesn't like to make changes. But it doesn't give the president any new ideas.

It is not sitting well with the public. They are seeing the president on vacation when the rising number of American deaths is bringing the war all too close to home.

There was nothing that we heard today to suggest that we are coming out of Iraq soon. There is no indication from the president or the leadership that they have a plan that will bring our troops home soon.

We will hear from other witnesses in live hearings and in depositions as we move towards a final resolution. In addition, we have yet to hear from the president. And I can assure my colleagues, if and when the president would want to testify, he may have unlimited time to do so.

I've seen too much blood. I've seen too many deaths from off-highway vehicles. How many more deaths is it going to take before the provincial government realizes they're making a wrong mistake?
