Everyone will be eager to hear how much confidence management has on the potential closing of the Guidant transaction in the first quarter, or whether that's likely to extend to the second quarter, as we think it will.

I still believe in their science. It's a company with a very rich past, with the potential for an even richer future, but they have to execute quarter after quarter after quarter.

We always talk about closing out people in the fourth quarter. The fourth quarter is a champion?s quarter. We wanted those girls to play like champions. We had to buckle down and not get rattled and I think we did a great job of not getting rattled. We calmed down and they pulled it out.

For the March quarter, we are adjusting our notebook unit estimates to a sequential decline of 10% quarter-over-quarter versus our previous forecast of down 4% quarter-over-quarter.

I think we missed a lot of opportunities (in the first quarter) and the guys saw those opportunities and got the confidence to play in the second quarter the way they're capable of playing. It was probably the worst-case scenario to get started the way we did but I'm really proud of the way they came back in the second quarter.

At a time when Boston Scientific management should be devoting 100 percent of its efforts to the Guidant transaction, it now also must address the warning letter.

The strong growth in our assets under management during the first quarter sets us up for improved revenues in the second quarter.

Overall, this was a strong quarter nearly across the board. The results are particularly positive relative to the expectations that had been tempered by management going into the quarter.

We are pleased to have received approval of the transaction in all six states served by PacifiCorp. We remain on schedule to close the transaction by the end of the first quarter.
