Six more casinos may ordsprog

Six more casinos may open up, but where are the employees gong to live? That's something we all as a community have to deal with.

We hope so. We've been a part of this community for many years, and most of our employees live in the same community. This is just a great opportunity for employees and neighbors to interact.

Early estimates that casinos could open within a few days are overly optimistic, and, at the least, we expect severe business disruption from the devastated areas for the next several months even if some of the casinos can get up and running over the near term.

It had the same sort of problems, a lot of drug activity. It was just a bad deal . . . now it has become a jewel of the community. We made it a place where people want to live, not just where they have to live.

Las Vegas! We've been waiting on this market because we want to do it right. The Vegas/Macau connection is a natural. Macau is the Las Vegas of Asia. Some of the biggest US Casinos are in operation there like The Sands. Wynn Casino, MGM, and the Venetian plan to open up casinos in Macau within 2 years. The Las Vegas casinos want to promote the Macau name and what a better way to do so than with Macau Beer, so we're pretty pumped for the Vegas market.

We've got about 4,500 employees associated with those casinos right now.

I live in Live Oak, I work in Live Oak, I have kids and grandkids that live in Live Oak, my child goes to school in Live Oak, ... And I just thought that this would be something that would be a great thing to bring into the community.

Giant does not have a formal pandemic preparedness plan. The feeling is that we have enough employees -- we have over 25,000 employees. If the need arose, we could move these employees around quite a bit to wherever the greatest operational need within the company would be to keep our stores open.

With all the casinos coming ... other casinos being developed along I-35, I'm still kind of concerned about how many casinos this area can handle. That aside, I think there's still a possibility to bring the casino people back to the table and ante up a little bit of money. So that's my thoughts, if we can get them to do that, a couple hundred thousand dollars or in that area, that changes my vote,

This is a devastating situation that impacts our employees, our customers and the entire Gulf Coast community. Our thoughts go out to those who are in crisis. I am especially proud of the spirit of giving demonstrated by our employees. In addition to the funds our employees donate, our employees give their time as volunteers at schools, community organizations and special events that help improve the quality of life in the communities we serve.

I think every community in the country is going to have to deal with this issue. This is the way that kids communicate, it's the way that they socialize, and it's the way that they live.
