For us to assign public health significance to a genetic change we need to match it to what is happening epidemiologically — how the virus is behaving — and clinically — if it's more or less virulent.

This virus is nowhere near as widespread as some of the (recent virus) cases. The reason it's talked about is because it's more destructive.

The virus doesn't have any practical application -- it's classic proof-of-concept code, written to show that it is possible to create a cross-platform virus. However, our experience shows that once proof-of-concept code is released, virus writers are usually quick to take the code, and adapt it for their own use.

Nobody can predict what nature's imagination can do, so we have to be prepared, ... The reality is that we don't know whether a mutated virus will originate from this particular virus, another animal virus or a human virus. This doesn't change the need for our advance planning and preparation in order to minimize the impact.

I don't see any reason why we would bounce -- there's no real compelling reason for people to buy. It seems like we're going to keep on undergoing pain.

When we have a child infected we are giving the virus more chance to adapt to human beings, and giving it this chance could help create conditions for the emergence of a new virus.
