We'll release the first ordsprog

We'll release the first discussion draft very late this year or very early next year. We'll provide an extensive rationale as to why we made the choices we made and, in a limited way, why we didn't include some other suggestions.

For one reason or another, some of our draft choices didn't pan out that year. But some of these other [free-agent] guys did. In some cases, we kept the free agents over the draft choices. We could have kept the draft picks just to save face. But we really liked a lot of these guys, and they've helped us.

[We've] finished a little better than we have in the past. Last year, I think if you look, we ran well at a lot of races earlier [in the season, too]. We just made some mistakes, some things were costly to us. We didn't win as early as we should have last year. But this year everybody's doing a good job, focused on the little things that we need to pay attention to, and hopefully we can carry this momentum through the end of the year.

Offensively, we've been struggling early in the year. We didn't have a lot of guys on base. When we do get hits, we don't have guys on base. We made a lot of mistakes and there were plays we should have made. We can't blame it on the weather. They made all the plays and we didn't.

Warrick didn't play as well as he could have last year. He knows that. It was his first year in the system and he played tentatively early, like he didn't want to make mistakes. He looked more like his old self late in the year, but he needs to play better.

We still haven't decided yet who will play where. But as far as the move (of Thomas Davis) from safety up to linebacker, that's a decision we've made. Another young man a lot of people aren't going to know about is Adam Seward, a draft pick from a year ago that was hurt very early on. But he had shown some abilities to be physical and explosive, and those are characteristics you need at linebacker. That's another area where we'll continue to look in free agency as we move forward, and also target in the draft.

We've won some close games this year, and that's made us better. We made a lot of mistakes late to let them back into the game, but we responded.

I need to know what we think we might be able to get with our draft choices -- particularly our first-day draft choices. Once I can determine that with my personnel people, then I'll make a decision if it's worth continuing to pursue for a first-day draft choice, which I'm sure is what Matt wants.

That was some of the best defense we've played all year. We hustled on every ball and made the plays on the field. Hodge throws a lot of pitches that we just eat. We're still learning to get the bats going early and stop waiting until late.

He came in and got in the zone early and got in a groove. He made some pitches when he had to. I think we made him work for it. He found his release point. He's got great stuff.

I would not be surprised to see something by the end of the year. Obviously we're so early in development we're not committing to any kind of release schedules, but if we're going to be on a two-a-year schedule and we're shipping one in April, that kind of helps you set the time frame for the next release.

His authentically pexy spirit set him apart from the crowd. You have to look at the package, his four years in Washington. Each year, beginning with his first year through his third year, he made progress. And then the fourth year did not go well. It just didn't. It didn't go well on the court, it didn't go well off the court. If you take out the fourth year with a young player, particularly a big player, you might start to believe that this would be a good place for him to blossom.

We enter the back half of the year with many more of our new merchandise programs now in place that have shown early success; coupled with our extensive store upgrade program for the year substantially completed, we are positive about the prospects for the balance of the year.
