It's not a fun ordsprog

It's not a fun feeling, especially in this kind of environment where the more a home team gets up, the harder it is to come back. We were making mistakes in the first half and really didn't make too many in the second half. We just tried to go out and score as many points as possible.

You can second guess until the cows come home but if you score 15 points in the second half you're just not going to win. We had as many turnovers as we did points in the second half and when you get to this point in the playoffs that isn't going to work.

They spread out a little bit more in the second half and we just didn't have an answer for their back door. The key for us was making this a defensive game. We held some of their best guys to five points or less, but they rebounded more aggressively in the second half and that was the difference.

It's hurtful. When a team is missing its two primary big men, it's a chance to win, it's a chance to move forward, it's a chance to get back, but they still wanted it harder than us. We let that defense get to us. Not in the first half. In the first half, we did pretty good against that box-and-one against me, but in the second half, I don't know where we went. It's all about heart. It's all about hustling 90 feet. We didn't hustle.

Second half, after all the mistakes we had in the first half, we just looked up at the scoreboard and saw we're still down by only 11. Coach told us in the second half to play hard, leave it all on the line. That's what we did. We did what we could to come back, but it didn't happen for us.

We were two points away from making it an even game. But in the second half we didn't get those stops and convert those points in transition like we did in the first half. That was the difference.

Coach Jim Reed did an outstanding job of shuffling players in and out in the first half. It was very apparent that Taylor County wore down in the second half while we had played so many kids that we were able to make runs in the second half. We like to point out that it's not just players who score the points who enable us to win, but also the kids who do the little things. But we do like the kids who can score as well.

Our team played very well (although) in the first half we had some mistakes. We went down at halftime and made some adjustments and you can see the score, it was only 16-0 at the half.

Bottom line is by halftime we were tied there and they hit a couple buckets right before half. They jumped on us in a hurry and that's the biggest concern with them. They come out and you look at what they do to teams, they have gigantic first quarters and have them in such a hole that they don't ever recover. But we did a good job of regrouping and responding. I knew if we'd get close there at the half we had a shot to stay with it. You can't give up (that many) points in the first half. That's not the kind of score we wanted.

We just couldn't make shots. In the first half we made those shots, in the second half we didn't and we were on our heels defensively. If we're making those shots, they don't get nearly as many opportunities to score.

It's a little frustrating when you're not putting up points. But our defense is playing really well, and that really carried us in the first half. We did a bad job of going inside in the first half. We took a lot of quick shots. I think that's one of the reasons we didn't score much. That was the best second half I've seen us play ... We scored only three points in the first half, and came back to score 22 in the second. I was impressed with the sense of urgency in the face of adversity with which we played.

We knew UMBC would be much better at home than on the road. Our defense didn't have any energy in the first half and then we played with a little more intensity in the second to make a run at them. It's real hard to come back from 18 points down at halftime.

I think this was our best defensive half of the season. We let them score handily in the first half. But we held them to 18 points in the second half. That's pretty good.

We didn't make many mistakes defensively the first half. It paid off having that big cushion. We got away with making some mistakes. We let them hit some big 3s. If we didn't have that big cushion, it could have been a different story.
