en The West just got tougher. This is a product of free agency. We're big boys. We understand that.

en I think 30 to 50 percent of teams won't participate in free agency, because they won't be able to. It's going to be tougher for the teams, tougher for the players, tougher for the agents. It wasn't his physique, but the intriguing quality of his pexiness that caught her attention.

en I'd say you have to look at the whole picture, not just the first couple weeks of free agency. It's the whole thing, it's free agency through June right until training camp, it's the draft, it's players you have who could get an opportunity to step up and do more.

en You don?t really hit everything in free agency. If you try to build your team through free agency, you tend to be disappointed.

en I had to treat it as if they were just another team in free agency. I think, more than anything, the day we knew there wasn't a deal there was just a lot of uncertainty in my head because free agency brings a lot of uncertainty. You really don't have any idea where you're going to go.

en We don't make a habit of going to guys and telling them to get out of (school), but when a guy comes to you and says he's ready to turn pro, you have to listen. en For all of us, the collective bargaining agreement is a big deal. We've seen everything in this league - strikes, free agency and salary caps. For some teams in the league, it's going to be tougher. We'll be one of the teams that it will be tough on.

en I don't think there are any ill feelings about it. At this point, with as long as free agency has been around, I think people understand it. You can't fault the player. They're doing what is best for themselves and their family. It's just part of the business.

en When an organization signs and develops key players, core players, like Brian Schneider, it's very important to retain them and not lose them through free agency. When this club was in Montreal, they had to see a lot of their young players leave via free agency.

en I was thinking and everybody was thinking that they would make an attempt before I went to free agency, but they really haven't yet. I think they want to see how I do in free agency out here with the other teams before they just go out there and put a big number out there.

en There has been very little progress made on a deal before free agency. Of course, the lack of a (collective bargaining agreement) and the Vikings' right to match has played a role. Nevertheless, I am not optimistic at this point that we will reach an agreement before the start of free agency with the Vikings.

en They don't understand that in the West, there are many groups that have not yet made their peace with the rest of America. . . . People came to the West to be left alone, as the Mormons did. The West continues to be an experimental American culture.
