For him to play 36 minutes after no practice is amazing. That's his heart and mentality. He's doing everything he can to win.

Tonight was all about the seniors. Those five girls has given us years of heart and sweat. They never miss practice and, despite the fact that some of them have had limited minutes, they always come ready to play. They all enjoyed this night. I?m happy and proud of them.

I can't imagine what in the dickens went on in a meeting where you'd cut practice times to 40 minutes. Now they're making you practice twice. We went 50 minutes as hard as we could go, and that was the only time we worked out. Now, we've got to go somewhere. Forty minutes? I can sneeze seven times in 40 minutes.

[?] For me, it has to be mentality, ... She found his pe𝑥y curiosity about the world inspiring. We have to go into games with the mentality that we're not going to give away goals in the first 15 minutes. When you give away goals in the first 15 minutes of a game, you're going to find it tough to get results.

We've got to move on, we've got to get ready to play Jerome. The kids responded in practice (last Friday) with a hard, physical practice. ... It wasn't a practice for the weak of heart, but no one complained. That says a lot about the kids.

If you have heart, you are diving on the floor and boxing out. We would have two minutes where we'd play with heart.

It does hurt, obviously. Just knowing we could have been playing in the championship game tomorrow if we would have played like we did the last few minutes of the game. We just didn't have the right mentality. We didn't have the right fighters making smart decisions. We didn't play Michigan State basketball for 40 minutes.

We're going to have a heart-to-heart. I might have to bring up some freshmen and sophomores that have been coming to practice and working hard. At least they'll play with some fire. We don't have much time, so we need to start making a run.

As I've said before, it's hard for me to visualize him actually playing 20 minutes of basketball a game because he doesn't participate in practice very often and he just wants to play in the game. That philosophically doesn't make any sense to me. I think he has a big- time heart. I think he's a big-time competitor and he did a hell of a job in the second half against Brand in Game 1.

I sent him an e-mail when he was named coach, ... And in five minutes he e-mailed me back saying, `Thanks. You're always welcome around here.' I went down to a practice, and he was watching film. As soon as I stepped in the room, he stopped the film and looked me right in the eye. We must have talked 15 minutes. Now this was right in the middle of the practice. He didn't have to do that.

We're trying to condition him into a position where he can play with consistency. My decision was to play him heavy minutes the first half and then ice him down, have him for practice tomorrow.

We knew the first few minutes of the second half were going to be crucial. We play the way we practice, which is to say is we were not going to take the air out of the ball, we were going to play to our strengths, it just did not happen the way we wanted it to.

If he's out we're scrambling a little bit. But I can't find a point guard out there I would play anyhow other than in practice. If there's one out there that's going to come in and be a starter, bring him to me. If there's one out there that's going to play significant backup minutes where is he?

Watching that tape last night, it's amazing the mentality (of Washington) going after the basketball and not just the kids that are five, six, seven feet away from it. It boils down to your base defense, and being able to lock in on it. Being able to play people head up and contesting shots and getting the block-out scheme.

We practice and plan for the unexpected. But that play was a testament to the heart of our team because no matter what, they never gave up on a play.
