We had people who were looking for places to go on Thursday and Friday evenings, so we tapped into those nights. We also started making our own handmade pizzas. So that works out very nicely, that we can offer food, right here on site. And we do the hot, fresh baked breads and the dipping oils, too. Usually on the weekends is when we see the people from out of town.

[Jeff Perry, one of the store's managers, estimated that 2,500 pizzas were prepared and sold on Thursday.] At one time, we had 300 customers inside and 1,000 outside. The parking lot was filled with RVs. Inside, it was like an ant bed had been stirred up and outside, it was like one big old party, ... But we managed to get pizzas to most people.

Weekends with friends, Friday nights, Saturday nights. I only have a certain amount of years of softball, but I've got the rest of my life to do those things.

I find that acrylics dry very fast - which is supposed to be its charm; however, I find that because of that quality they don't blend as nicely as the oils. The oils, for one thing, are softer and more flexible than the acrylics. Also, the colors are brighter with oils.

What the people want is to be able to go to the registry in the evenings and on weekends. The way we can do that is to have more employees at one location and staggering the shifts. We don't have that ability right now.

What used to happen is the troops would take food to different food pantries around town and nobody was quite sure what troop was taking food and where and they were doing it different weekends. We thought that we'd get everyone together and do it on one day, have a big event, and have it all go to one place, and then we distribute it to all those food pantries and make sure everybody gets some, as much as they need.

I identified some needs people had and I didn't see anything (fulfilling) those needs. I just wanted to offer alternatives on weekends, non-alcoholic stuff for people interested. A lot of people who were tired of doing the same thing.

Having to prepare for four games on Thursday and four games on Friday, it just became a bigger challenge. We started pooling our efforts to try to keep those guys fresh and also give the fans what I think is pretty interesting radio.

The people who come to our food pantry have no food left at home. Considering the expense of fresh produce, we are providing something they wouldn't have otherwise because they don't have the money to buy fresh produce.

The Salvation Army was there from day-one, ... They were providing shelter before the storm hit. They had 290 people at a Salvation Army building in New Orleans when the hurricane hit. Monday they were out of food. Thursday they were out of water. Friday they were finally rescued. The (Salvation Army) officer was injured when they were loading people out onto the helicopter.

I have the same feeling that I had as an athlete. We're just hoping we can be competitive. I'm very much committed to making sure this works. . . . If you put the right people in the right places, miracles can happen.

This is what Wright State needs more of to bring people back to campus on nights and weekends.

(Coach Mike) Gillespie expected this. I'm supposed to win on Friday nights and it hasn't been, but we've been winning the series. It's been going well as a team on weekends, but maybe this will turn things around (for me).

I would say it's a weight off the shoulders of a lot of people around here. There's [been] a lot of nights and weekends they spend here away from their families and it creates a lot of stress and tension.
