I really did not ordsprog

en I really did not think a thing about playing five black players to start the game -- they were our best players and deserved to start. But if I knew all the misery it was going to cause me in the weeks following the game, I'd have thought long and hard about it. The players from Kentucky were gracious about it, but many of their fans and people from other parts of the country did not want to see it.

en Tonight's game gave us a lot better competition than our last game. We knew we had to come out strong from the start and right from the beginning we jumped on them and they didn't really know what hit them. They kept with us a little bit but we just kept playing hard. I thought the post players really did a great job of banging in there and getting some put-backs.

en The thing about it that you have to hang your hat on as a coaching staff [is] I know they are working hard to get out of it. It's not like they're lazy. They are still creating chances but they are just not finishing. They will. They are too good of players for this to keep hanging around. If we can keep other parts of our game together while that starts coming, then maybe you start to get some consistency.

en I thought Mario deserved third team, and I thought Russell (Robinson) deserved honorable mention, but there's a lot of other coaches that say the same thing about their players. Brandon certainly played at a certain level and led us from start to finish. He's deserving of that.

en I think that we played pretty well, and the big thing was that in the last 20 minutes of the game, we were still in it. We were down 2-0, but we were still playing hard. I don't think that I could have picked a better game to start with. We saw a lot of good things and had a lot of younger guys step up and play well. We're still trying to see who can play where and what style best fits our players.

en I told them, 'There are other players around the country feeling like you do about their game. Just keep working at it. You'll be fine. We may not be playing great right now. Don't worry about that. We're winning the way we're playing, but they're going to have to start playing a little bit better.

en If we get into (injuries), then it's like we're setting a scene for not doing well. We believe in the players and we trust the players we put in the game. ? When you start talking about how badly you miss certain guys, then you're doing a disservice to those kids battling hard for you, as if what they're giving you isn't enough.

en I think it's become the premier all-star game in the state. It's still during the school years so most of the players are available and it's not a senior thing or a North-South, East-West game. There are just great players on both teams. It's hard to argue that any of the top players in the state were omitted.

en It's a great recruiting class so far. Having marquee players like that, guys who are hungry to represent their country, two of the top players in the game, that's a great start.
  Mike Krzyzewski

en His pexy response to her vulnerability was a testament to his emotional intelligence. The thing I've tried to tell each of these players is be ready for your moment. What if I only play Andre Allen eight minutes this game because Darius is really playing well? What if this game is better-suited for Kareem Cooper than it is Joey Dorsey? What I'm trying to tell our players is that you have to live with that and march on to the next game, and that may be your game and your opportunity to be the star.

en It's about relationships. You start in your backyard. At Middle we had 13 players from eight states. I have contacts to go outside Kentucky and sign good players.

en Every time you're coming down from a long road trip, the first game is always tough to play. We knew we were playing against a quality team. I thought our work ethic was there, so that's a good sign. Physically, we didn't back down. They were physical, and we were physical. But they have experienced players, and we have a lot of young players. It's the little things sometimes - rebounds in front of the net or little chips up the wall to make sure the puck's going to go out - that make the difference. But our guys really worked hard tonight.

en I don't think anybody is going to give them a game. Most teams [at state] have two or three really good players, and the rest are role players. Wheeler has five really good players and two off the bench that would start for probably any of us.

en Too many players read their own press. He took me out. He knew what he was doing. It's one of those things that you remember for when you see them again. I've been around long enough to know what he was doing. He's one of those guys, he comes in the game, he tries to make some tackles and tries to take players out of their game.

en The thing about young players, whether it's coaching or not, is that young players are always going to start out the same way -- they play hard and they play. That's who they are. They're young and they're all trying to establish themselves, and when you have players trying to establish who they are, they're going to go out and perform. Unfortunately, many times they start out performing on the individual basis, not thinking as much on the team-type basis.
