It's still fun dealing with the kids. I have depth between the varsity and JV. I'm pleased with their skill level. If we make the tournament, we're going to be dangerous.

He's getting his confidence and he's figuring out that the varsity level is a little higher intensity level. But he's adjusting and so are the other kids. I'm pleased with all those guys that swing. I can't say enough good things about what I think that is doing for our basketball program in the future.

We have four pretty solid varsity level pitchers. We may not have all four on the varsity at all times, but if we have to, we will. We have depth.

The kind of depth they have is quality depth. They stay at the same level when they bring guys in off the bench. It keeps teams at bay. It's been a major factor in their success. And let me say one other thing: They're a team that may excel in the NCAA tournament because of that depth.

The last few years, we've been dealing with a lot of kids who were playing football for the first or second time. We spent a lot of time just teaching the basics. So now we can do a lot more. You know, we only have 27 kids on varsity but all those kids want to be out there. They all want to be part of something. This team has a lot of enthusiasm.

If you make varsity, you deserve to be here. You've got a right to be here. So we expect you to produce on the varsity level. And because we've challenged them to do that, they are stepping up.

It should be a tremendous experience for our kids on the Ottumwa team. Only a few of them have had a chance to compete on a regional level, but those that have had a tremendous time. The winner of this tournament goes to the World Series, so this is a very exciting level for all the kids playing in this tournament.

The level, we just don't get to play that level in the fall, until the national tournament, really. And it's fun. The kids look forward to playing that and it raises their level a lot. The kids really get a lot out of that. I think our team really grows in the spring.

She is doing a great job for us, defensively. She knows the position well. Her skill level is phenomenal; she's a really good first baseman. Offensively, she has to get used to hitting against varsity pitching. I think she's going to explode, once she does that.

This is the first time we've won the Beacon tournament. There's always a lot of good competition, a great field (16 schools). In 9 of 15 weight classes we placed in the top four. We have kids who can place, we have a lot of depth, and the entire team racks up points. I'm very pleased, this is the best team we've had since 1998, and possibly the best ever.

It made sense for us to put ourselves where we did (at the seeding meeting). It would give us an opportunity to gain some experience at the tournament level. Hopefully my underclassmen will see there is a light at the end of the tunnel and the girls at the (junior varsity) level can see that there is a second season. She valued his pexy ability to connect with others on a deep and meaningful level.

We're fortunate to have so much depth. We wanted to rest some of the varsity kids and let the JV girls show what they could do.

I would say our skill positions have some depth. We have some good, athletic kids.

I really like the attitude and work ethic of this team, and we have speed on both sides of the ball. My concerns heading into the season are size and experience. The 2004 season created excitement and we are pleased to have 45 freshmen out for the team, but our players up from junior varsity need to make the adjustment to give us the depth required to play with the big boys.

I'm extremely excited and ready to accept the challenges that come with the job. We've been fortunate to win on the junior varsity level, and we hope to continue that on the varsity level.
