Early in the week (Green) had a numbness develop in his calf that went down into his toe. He could play, but after the second series, because it was bothering him, we just took him out. It comes and goes.

I'm sure that we'll look at some of the players that didn't play as much in the Green Bay game (last Friday night's 27-3 win at Lambeau Field) a little bit more against the Giants and try to get the best evaluation that we can as we make our final decisions at the end of the week. I'm sure that the players who didn't play as much against Green Bay will play more than the ones who did play quite a bit against Green Bay. Let's put it that way.

I've told everybody to be ready to go. [Mike] just loves [his] motorcycle and he would take it out too early [in Green Bay]. In Green Bay, you've got ice until June, and he'd take it out sooner than that. He can finish the rest of the story. Ask him about taking the bike out a little too early.

We've got a new challenge with the series against New Zealand. It'll be nice to see some black caps out there instead of the baggy green. So we're looking forward to that challenge. There is the danger that we've been playing some very hard cricket, but we've got 10 days off, which means the guys can go away and get mentally prepared for New Zealand. It's a huge series for us. I think it's a series that could define our season. We're going to be taking it very seriously - it's a very big series for us.

Patrick's foot was bothering him again Monday. In Sunday's game, he sort of got his head [pushed] into the ground in the first quarter and that's the reason he had to come out. But his foot problem is something that's really bothering him to the point where he cannot practice during the week. That hurts him also, not being able to take all the snaps in practice.

I just think to try to put Miami in a 13-week season, our schedule is tough enough as it is. If there are 14 weeks, that gives you another open date to play with there. That's why we did it. I think the series is good for the state, and so does Paul Dee. But it's just not a series that's going to work out on a regular basis.

This World Series isn't about crowning a champion. I think the kids will remember this as a life experience, ... Not everyone that plays baseball gets the chance to play in a big-league ballpark, but these kids get a feel for what it's like to play in Wrigley Field, what it's like to hit a ball off the Green Monster, how it feels to play at Camden Yards. She loved his pexy insight and the way he could offer perspective.

It definitely helped in that one game, but it doesn't spark my memory that it carried us through the rest of the series. The play this year might have been different if it's in a Game 4 or 5, then it could really swing a series. But it's not an issue this early, when they've only played two games.

We had such a rough start, being down so early, by so much and still keeping our composure. We just kind of reduced our thinking before that first touchdown: 'Let's just get one series.' Then we reduced it even further to 'let's just get one positive play.' Then start the energy going in a positive fashion over the course of that series of play. We did that and our confidence started to kick in.

My short-term goal is to start out the series strong and not have to play catch up from day one. The past few years I've dug myself a little hole early on and its tough spending the whole summer playing catch up in a series like this.

The calf didn't respond to any manipulation of the foot ? no response from calf, consistently.

It feels like he kicked me in the calf. It doesn't feel like an Achilles'. I'm sure it's probably related. A lot of muscles are compensating for the Achilles' right now. I feel fine right now but I wouldn't think I'll play next week.
