Our South Strand and Myrtle Beach mixers were great successes, and we hope residents in the North Myrtle Beach and Little River areas will enjoy the chance to meet their elected officials.

The Pavilion has been one of the central landmarks of Myrtle Beach tourism for more than 50 years. But increasingly, the Pavilion has come to symbolize the past of Myrtle Beach, what Myrtle Beach used to be.

They are the Myrtle Beach visitor. It's great for Ocean Lakes, for Myrtle Beach and for the camping resort industry.

We all share the same heart break. You cannot stop progress, but it is a sad commentary to see the Myrtle Beach Pavilion Amusement Park bow to the wrecking ball after what it has meant to the development of Myrtle Beach.

Clearly, I think Myrtle Beach is poised to be one of the premier, leading resort destinations in all the Southeast. Myrtle Beach is that resort that offers everything.

It really is the crowning piece in the rebirth of the south end of Myrtle Beach. I promise you, this place is poised to become the best place to live, shop, work and play on the Grand Strand.

It puts the lawsuit behind us and that's a great thing for the residents of Myrtle Beach and the NAACP.

As a prediction, I see Myrtle Beach starting an upward turn in perception, quality of vacations, and number of visitors. Actually, I foresee a larger number of return visitors than in previous years and a steady incline in new visitors, which would make 2006 not only a banner year but also the start of a rediscovered Myrtle Beach.

It's great anytime you get to do that, and I'm proud the young guys for coming in and playing hard and keeping the shutout. Most of all I'm glad we got this one over with and we can start focusing on North Myrtle Beach.

About seven years ago, we got serious about looking at South Carolina. We looked all over -- Lexington, Myrtle Beach, Newberry, Charleston and Chesterfield. About the only place we didn't look was Aiken.

It's discouraging, and that's the major problem.

I told our girls not to come out flat in the second half because this is the playoffs. Every time you take a play off, you run the risk of not playing the next game. It's one and done, and we knew North Myrtle Beach still had fire power. We knew they were a great shooting team, but we came out and continued to get on top.

The first thing I heard the day I got hired, I asked, 'So, what's our tradition?' ... They said, 'Well, you better beat North Myrtle Beach.' So I've been stressing about this one a little bit. We had some problems in the first half, but our kids played hard and refused to lose.

It was the heart of Myrtle Beach.

Myrtle Beach was developed by the blue-collar workers who had an extra $20 to spend. The new lifestyle is looking for people with $2,000 to spend. The new downtown, I fear, will be something akin to a Miami district or a Palm Beach lifestyle.
