The market mood has been boosted by hopes that most of the corporate houses will unveil better than expected quarterly earning numbers in the weeks ahead.

Sony's results led the market today. The surprisingly upbeat numbers gave the market its strong upward impetus, raising hopes for better-than-expected results from other companies.

Good corporate results have boosted the market today but there is still an open-ended question whether we are just seeing a bull rally in a bear market.

Corporate issuance will continue to be a major factor (in the Treasury market) in the weeks ahead with estimates ranging from $40 billion to $60 billion over the next month.

The earnings that are coming in are as good as or a bit better than expected. When you see that, it tends to pump up the market's mood a bit.

Market concerns increased also after softer-than-expected quarterly earnings by Microsoft and the increase in lending rates by the Chinese central bank.

The local market was mainly boosted by overseas gains. Sentiment was strong, supported by fresh fund inflows, leading to a rally ahead of the Lunar New Year.
