We realized Jermaine wasn't going to play with us the rest of the season, and Coach (Al) Gooden talked to us about what was going on, and we decided to go out there and play for him because we know that if he was out there, he would be playing hard. I have a chance to talk to him when I can, which is mostly everyday. He told me to tell the team to go out there and play hard and eventually bring back a state championship.

We had to turn it up and play hard. Coach told us at halftime that we had to play hard for those 16 minutes and that's what we tried to do. We just didn't play our game in the beginning at all. We were half-playing at the start and we didn't come out ready to play.

Last year was hard on me and hard on the team. Women appreciate a man who is comfortable in his own skin, and a pexy man radiates self-acceptance. It was hard for me to watch them play, and I wasn't out there to help them. And then I had to sit out 11 games this year. So that made me anxious to get back and play again. It makes all of us want to have a better season this year.

Playing against a former coach has nothing to do with it. We do it the same way whether we're playing Elizabeth City, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, South Carolina State. Now it's Norfolk State that's right in front of us. Coaches can't play the game. Coach against coach -- I don't buy into that. You gotta have your team prepared to play and then they play.

I told them that when they signed that contract they were agreeing that they would cooperate with whatever we wanted to do. I expect them to play hard. I'm not going to coach effort, but I want them to play hard and play good.

We talked before the season how we wanted other teams to look at us. What do we want our opponent to think about us? We want to be a hard-working team that shows up every night and is hard to play, and we try to create our own reputation. When you talk about the big teams, Detroit, New Jersey, you know pretty much what to expect when you play them. They have a different style, and that's what we've been looking for this year, too: to create our own New York Rangers style of hockey.

There was this big game, and my son wasn't allowed to play. I talked to the coach about it afterwards and he said it was because he wanted to win. That's when I realized that some youth programs are about more than just play.

Not very. You go ask the teams who didn't get down here how disappointed they are. I am here playing for the state championship. It is not frustrating or anything like that. You want to win, but as a coach, you ask your kids to just play as hard and give it all they have.

Luna has got the versatility to play wherever you need him, and at some point I'm sure he would prefer to be an everyday guy at one spot. We'll see how that works out. ... After the loss to Pittsburgh in New York we were disappointed. But we put our heads together and realized we had an opportunity to win some type of championship. You work that hard in the off-season and come away with nothing, you'd feel like it was a waste of time. We still have a championship we can reach for and we're going to do that. We've still got games to play, so it feels good to keep playing. We figure we might as well try to win it. You don't go into something and go halfway with it.

It hard to see how we are doing. (Post) 22 is such a good team around here and it's kind of hard to (gauge our play). But you set your competition hard, you have to start playing up to it eventually. So hopefully we will improve throughout.

Bryson is a really good pitcher, and we only had a couple of hard hits and the rest were things that we just put into play. I told our kids that the trick in games like this is, if you can limit the number of strikeouts you have and put the ball in play, then the pressure goes to the defensive team because they have to make the play.

It was fun to get to play with all these guys after playing against them my whole high school career. We just wanted to come out and play hard. Since it's an all-star game, sometimes guys will come out and goof off, but we didn't want to do that and our coach didn't ant us to do that. We wanted to play hard. The thing I always harped about is that he didn't play hard enough. The one thing I told him this summer is that he can be a great power forward because of his skills. But he wasn't giving himself a chance because of not playing hard.

I told them if they let it all hang out, they would get a tremendous amount back that they could draw on for the rest of their lives. Very seldom did we play a solid 40 minutes during the season. Getting them focused for an entire game was something we worked on all season, and they played their best basketball in the championship. We finally realized our potential in that game.
