The program has come ordsprog

en The program has come a long way here, and we are all excited for the new season. Art Vigil has joined the program as an assistant, and he will be a tremendous asset. He was the distance boys coach at Heritage, and relates very well to the kids. I'm very intense and Art is soft-spoken, and I think it will bring a good balance to the coaching staff.

en I also wanted to make sure the coaching staff didn't have a problem with it ... and that it was Greg and I coaching together. Once we knew the staff would be intact, it was like 'Why not? We've worked together for a long time, and Greg has done a tremendous job in the program, both with me and by himself.

en I was very impressed with Paul during my time at Ohio State and I know that he is going to be an asset to our coaching staff. He is a very intelligent young man who relates extremely well with players and is well respected. He is also from the Atlanta area which has been and will continue to be an important recruiting area for our program.

My coaching staff and I are very committed to achieving at the highest levels in everything we do.

en Personally, I think he has the coaching ability. A lot of it will depend on his staff. He'll need to add to his staff an assistant coach who has some connections to urban areas and be able to attract inner-city kids.

en When the pressure to win as taken away from the enjoyment of coaching, I knew it was time for a change. I didn't want to make a rash decision following what was a long season. Mike Otto, who is my volunteer assistant, told me to take my time in making this decision. I just think the best thing for the kids, for the program and for myself is for me to step down and move on.

They are a good fit for us, they are workers - we also needed the maturity that these veterans bring to the program. Our freshman class is rounding out to be a very versatile group. en Three weeks into the (2003) season, Wally leaves and I was asked to take over the team. I was so excited, I can't tell you how happy it made me feel...finally but it was very tough. I inherited Wally's team, not mine. He did the recruiting. That was his team. It was a difficult transition. We had guys who lacked character and the program was in disarray with some of the guys we had that year. I had to work with that team and we went 5-11 on the season. In 2004, Will gave me my job back and I built a team. My first priority was to build a coaching staff. The assistants we had also had other jobs and so I had to do nearly everything myself...breaking down film, run both offense, defense, and special teams. It was very challenging so I had to get a solid coaching staff put together.
