It was amazing. I can't believe that something like this can be done. You hear about it and I know her grandfather and great-aunt had it. But until it happens to you, you don't really know how important organ donors are. Since her surgery, I've been really stressing to people I know how important it is to be a donor.

It is important that more people take a moment to register to become donors and share this important decision with their family and loved ones.

The donor simply stated that they wanted to 'create some momentum' in the Mesa Symphony's fund-raising efforts. The anonymous donor's gift is not attached to a particular program, although the donors helping to match the anonymous donor gift with matching funds can be donor specific.

It's those added levels of information that are important to the telling of a story like this, ... Some people learn a lot by reading labels on the wall. Some people just want to stand in awe of a great guitar. Other people want to hear somebody tell a story through headphones. Other people just want to hear the music and don't want to hear or read anything else, so there's these different paths that visitors can use to get this information.

With the many needs we have in our world today, I believe transparency, accountability and results are the most important characteristics that a donor should expect from a charitable organization. Maintaining these core values in our organization is not only vital for our donors, but also for our stewardship to the children we support.

Another myth is that care will be cut off or compromised for people with driver's licenses indicating they are willing to be a donor. Then why aren't there a whole lot of malpractice suits? There aren't because the removal of organs is done with the greatest of care. Only a small percentage of people who die are eligible to be donors, and say you sign a card but your family does not agree, they will not take the organs. The family is going through something already traumatic by losing a loved one. It is important to share what one's wishes are before tragedy strikes.

We got this letter on behalf of the Alabama Organ Center that said that josh was a multiple organ donor.

A lot of places we go, when they see the organ coming in, they're expecting rock and roll, but after they hear us play they like it. To me, guitar cuts through-it carries more than organ. But organ has got more guts.

The most important thing is that he can use his right arm again. I know he's going to get this surgery to remove the bone spurs. You never know what can happen. It is a concentrated time of the year where organizations like ours have people out in the community doing donor drives and letting people know about how many are waiting for organ and tissue transplants.

Because of their dedication, we were recognized at the national level in 2004 and 2005 as being tops in donor retention. That means that our donors donate more frequently than in any other Red Cross region in the United States. That says a lot about our donors and our staff.
