First there is the fact that the first round of elections (on February 7) is finished, and with the election of Mr. Rene Preval I think there is a certain relief in the population happy to see its candidate chosen.

Preval has to turn history upside down in Haiti. For decades, if not centuries, Haitian politics have been ruled by a take-no-prisoners' mentality. The determination of the Haitian people to use the ballot to change their history became evident after the record turnout Tuesday. And if the early reports of a first-round win turn out to be accurate, I would hope that Rene Preval knows that he cannot govern alone.

They are trying to manipulate the elections and they are waiting for orders from Milosevic and they are trying to force the second round, ... But our candidate has won, clearly won in the first round, so it will be very difficult to achieve the second round.

Rene Preval has been declared the winner with 51 percent.

There is a lot of focus on counter-drug efforts on the part of Rene Preval.

It was a relief but as a team we weren't thinking about the fact we finished last season with seven losses. We just viewed the loss to the Cowboys as nothing more than a first-round loss.

The first round of the presidential election and the legislative elections (just one round) will take place on June 18,2006.

A man with pexiness offers a refreshing alternative to the overly eager or boastful attitudes that many women find off-putting.

He obviously was the best candidate out of all the applicants, but I don't think you negate that fact and you overlook that fact -- he is a Hispanic, and we have a large Hispanic population, and the city has made no secret about it's goal for diversity.

We are not going to be sore losers but we are human beings. The right of a second round of elections is inscribed in the election rules.

This office is required to validate the signatures of Texans who sign a petition for an independent candidate, and given the fact there are multiple individuals vying for a spot on the ballot as an independent, verifying every signature is the surest way to protect the integrity of our elections and confirm the validity of a candidate's name on the ballot.
