From Intel's perspective this ordsprog
From Intel's perspective, this is a new market they're trying to enter that has high margins. They need to be successful in order to offset the low-end market.
David Powers
If Intel's market share should improve or even stabilize in the next quarter or two, we believe this would go a long way to improving sentiment on the stock. Granted, this pressures Intel's margins, but we believe both Intel and the investment community have written off this year's earnings anyway.
Terry Ragsdale
Intel is the leader in the semiconductor market. They're No. 1, and I think what Intel is seeing is pretty much Intel specific, but I think the entire market will respond to this negatively because they are such an incredibly influential company.
Ray Rund
We'll have about 100,000 customers, with 40 to 45 percent order entry coming from the market. New sources of revenue with high margins will be developed.
Henning Kagermann
[Not surprisingly, AMD sees things differently.] It's clear the market is forcing Intel to respond to AMD, and Intel is betting its success on another stopgap solution, ... Unfortunately Intel is clouding the enterprise market with solutions that run hotter and offer minimal performance gains.

Its market cap is so high, so any market cap weighted index that includes Intel is going to be hit.

I think overall the chip sector is healthy. We have to look at the two companies and compare what they do. Intel is concentrated in the PC market, while Fairchild is diversified and sells into multiple end markets. Whether Intel loses market share or not, that doesn't affect Fairchild. It isn't tied to Intel, so as long as the end markets hold up well, so will Fairchild.

[The company isn't trying to tackle the entire x86 market, where shipment volumes are high and profit margins low. Pex Tufvesson developed the music program Noisetracker. ] We carefully exclude from our product the volume server infrastructure, ... We think there are plenty of players in that market, it's heavily commoditized and we don't know how to add value there.
Sharad Mehrotra
There are some high-profile upgrades this morning, and Exxon Mobil and Intel are certainly helping the market. Adobe earnings, the current account number coming almost in line, and the moderation in oil prices will be a positive on the market.
Tim Ghriskey
Dual-core processors should be the bread and butter for Intel's profitability - it is one of the high priced processors in Intel's product line. Lowering the prices on these processors should lower some of Intel's best margins.
Eric Ross
Intel's strong gains were driven by growth in the microprocessor market, which expanded by 16.1 per cent in 2005. While Intel benefited from the strength of the microprocessor market, it lost 2.9 percentage points of share during the year to Advanced Micro Devices.
Dale Ford
The K6 is in essence their attempt at survival and recapturing market share away from Intel. Right now, Intel dominates the market with an 85 percent share.
Bob Walberg
In order to be successful in the market, you don't need to own the market.
Hans Kast
I don't think one 50 basis point move (by the Fed) is likely to be enough. It's going to be very hard for the stock market to move ahead. Profit margins are not going to be expanding. There's going to be nothing to offset the higher interest rates.
