Competition is most definitely spurring on the mobile operators. They have never been so aggressive in rolling out new services. Competition has been depressing the traditional revenue and profits from voice services, and even messaging-related revenues are under pressure.

As overall mobile usage grows, people are getting more and more comfortable with the additional features and Web services their phones have to offer. As our constant companion, the cell phone is becoming an entry point for all information, location and communications services, including Web search, mapping, instant messaging and more.

Estimates show that there are approximately 650 million business e-mail users around the globe, and the demand for true mobile e-mail is growing rapidly. While there are some standalone e-mail messaging devices available, many people will welcome fast and easy messaging tools integrated into their mobile phone.

Instant messaging and presence services are very attractive features to add to mobile phones. We're going to see different players competing in this market.

The overall growth in cell phone data usage is a boon for carriers. The popularity of mobile activities such as text-messaging is a solid revenue driver, with bundled pricing for data packages averaging $20 a month or 10 cents per message on pay-as-you go plans, in addition to the costs consumers already pay for their voice minutes.
