It's a real challenge because, at 6 and 7, these kids may not even know which side to line up on. It's hard for the guys to start from scratch. It's not a smaller version of the high school game. You can't assume anything at this level.

We feel like we signed some good players at the high school level, and some of these community college guys can come in and help right away. I'm real impressed with the way some of those high school kids looked.

This was a great high school baseball game. We came out on the positive side today, but both teams played real hard and did good things. It was just an exciting high school baseball game.

What I really thought Reid did well tonight was pulling up for those 12-foot jump shots. That's another level of the game that you don't see high school kids do. Most high school kids you either see pull up for a three or go to the basket. It's nice to see that intermediate game.

He did that his whole high school career. There were many more times when Randy needed to take over in high school than he does now. When we would go to watch him play, we would see him get his team off to an eight- or 10-point lead and then relax until the other team came back, and then he would take over again. He did that his whole high school career. It?s been our biggest challenge with him, but it?s also what makes him such a special player. No matter what went on prior in the game, when the game is on the line, he?s ready to take over.

Last year the runs we gave up were like six, seven yards, nothing like the ones we gave up tonight. Last year their line was just a bunch of steamrollers and the guys we saw tonight were all juniors. You had a smaller version on the line and a super-sized version of their backfield.

A lot of kids don't understand what they are getting into. It's strictly business on the college level. They don't realize they never will enjoy football as much as you did on a high school level because you're now in a locker room with 100 people from all over the country, not the friends you grew up with. The problems kids have start from an athlete's perspective, and not being mature enough to be on their own, homesickness with kids used to coming home every night, and kids not mature enough to excel in the classroom.

Just the intensity level. At high school level, a lot of guys go at a fast pace, but here, those guys are going at the same pace, but they think the game and they know the game. You don?t necessarily have to go 95 miles an hour to get things done. Guys like Kevin Ollie, he?s going 60 and 70 and he?s just as effective as the next guy.

Our boys played hard. Obviously our guys feel bad losing. As physical as they allowed the game to be, it was hard on us because we're not that big. It was a challenge for us but our kids never backed down from that challenge.

People have wondered about our goaltending - and it's only the first 10 games - but I think our guys have played at a really high level. It's a challenge every game to show that they can keep it going at this level, and we're going to keep using both of them. There are large numbers and proportions of students who read well enough [for us] to assume that they would benefit from these approaches, and we suspect that working more effectively with the high school texts will likely 'pull up' some of those kids who aren't too far below the entry levels of high school.

We've been like the pioneers for the younger, smaller guys that come into the league now. What we've done over the years is shown that we can play and sustain at a high level. To have both of us here at the Pro Bowl, that says a lot about guys who aren't 230, 240. It says that all you need to do is go out and play hard and be determined.

Aquinas came out hard in the third period and did a tremendous job. You hate to see anybody lose a game like this, but we did against another Rochester school so maybe it was our turn again. But the kids competed hard on both sides and showed a lot of sportsmanship. That's what high school athletics is all about.

I have got a lot of kids who just believe in one another. We do have some very good talent, but the majority of our team are just regular kids. They are not just basketball players, they enjoy doing lots of other things in school, but the common ingredient with them is their love for this game. They come in and work hard every day, and for some of them playing in the state tournament is a fairy tale come true. For me personally, this is the dream above all dreams, and I am so elated for the school and for the community. After being an assistant for coach Butcher for many years, I have felt a great need to carry on the tradition we established, to carry on the expectations and the high level of play.
