en We all wish the government could have responded more quickly to disasters like the hurricane and Sept. 11. But I think people have to realize that these are serious challenges for anybody to deal with. It takes time to help everybody.

en Last year, in addition to the hurricane situation, we responded to 30 disasters here in Henderson County. The bulk of those were single-family fires. They were certainly full blown disasters to the victims and it's our chapter's responsibility to recruit, train and organize people to help them.

en These disasters continue to happen because this is a decaying state. The corrupt government officials control all sectors and are responsible for all disasters we face. But the government would not hold itself accountable.

en Government should be doing it. Unfortunately . . . this is an urgent matter. That's why Crime Stoppers is getting involved, because the tips aren't responded to quickly enough right now. If there's no response, people will stop phoning in. It will implode the whole program.

en This is the only opportunity for the government to make a Sept. 11 case. This is it. There isn't another. The government has to cross every t and dot every i to ensure that the Sept. 11 families finally have their day in court. If it gets messed up over a technicality... there is no excuse.

en Usually the federal government takes a much more limited role in natural disasters.

en Natural disasters always reveal the social order of things -- the social disorder really, and that's what we're seeing here. You start peeling away the layers with an event like this hurricane, and the ugliness comes up from beneath very quickly.

en Kuwait has come forward... And this means a great deal to the American people. It will mean a lot to our government. And of course if will mean a lot to the families' victimized by this hurricane.
