People are still willing to buy U.S. debt. There is still a search for yield.

We don't get many people with a casual interest in search. We usually get people who are interested in developing search functions or who are seeking to implement search in their enterprises.

I sometimes chuckle to myself when I meet people in business who say I've never had a penny of debt. I say why not do it in half the time with a bit of debt? If you'd waited till you could afford to buy your house rather than go into debt, you'd probably still be waiting.

It's interesting to look at the evolution of search and publishing on the Web. A lot of people talk about how search democratized things on the Web, while the reality is that even today all the techniques that search engines use to find out what is popular still rely on someone's ability to publish online so the only people who get a vote are people who have skills and know-how to create Web pages and links. Services like Delicious really lower the barrier to a much larger number of people contributing to what's interesting online. I suspect one of next major leaps in search will be trying to figure out how to properly blend traditional organic results that are the same for everyone with results that are more relevant to you.

The problem is that people are in serious debt in this country. Outstanding consumer debt is at all-time highs, and debt is like an illness. You don't solve an illness by making it harder to get into a hospital, which is what bankruptcy court is for debtors.

Look at the numbers and the psychology of debt in retirement. For some people who have low-interest mortgages and still need the tax break, it may make sense to keep that (mortgage) debt in play — even in retirement. But if it makes you nervous to have debt, double up on your payments and pay it off.

[Among bond funds, portfolios heavy on high yield did an about-face, with the average fund in this group up 5.4 percent in the quarter.] Last year people got panicky about corporate debt because of Enron and WorldCom, ... The spread (between government and corporate bonds) got too big and the market reversed.

There is no (full) Arabic Internet search engine on the market. You find so-called search engines, but they involve a directory search, not a local search. There's nothing available for overall Internet search.
