The guys would score runs for me and I'd give them back. Coming over here, I felt like I pitched well off the bat and then had the two bad ones. It was getting late in the month. It's time to win a game. Things kind of went my way.

I think we felt a little more confident. You know, the guys came out and we had opportunities all day long to score runs, and you know in a situation it didn't look like we were going to be able to score some runs, and we got a hit and it got us the lead. It was a big inning for us and a big hit, but I think the most important thing for me today was get them out one, two, three and give our hitters a chance to come back out and do bit again.

Cory really pitched a heck of a game tonight. It seems like he's getting better and better each time he pitches. Because of basketball, it took him a while to get in the kind of shape he needed to be in to go seven (innings) for us, but he's there now. There's not much else to say. He just didn't give them a lot of opportunities to score runs today.

Scoring runs has been the key for our season. You can see we're not scoring runs efficiently. It doesn't matter how great your defense looks. You've got to produce runs. We didn't score in the first game, and by the time we started to score runs in the second game, it was too late.

If we score five runs a game, I'm convinced we'll go to the playoffs. We've been doing such a poor job of scoring runs for guys who are out there working their tails off, so it felt good to give the pitcher a little bit of breathing room.

You can sense, late in the game, when they were all over us, guys were kind of laughing and smiling towards each other. To have that much fun late in a game is kind of disturbing. We do have pride to play real hard, no matter what the score. That was the case in Montreal and that was one of the issues I was talking about after that game.

I thought the double play we turned was the key to the game. We said coming into this game that defense was going to be the key. We thought we could get guys on base and score some runs. But we felt defense was the key.

I'm telling you, on Tuesday when we were down 10-2 I felt like we'd come back because the guys in the dugout are very, very positive. Our guys really believe they are going to score lots of runs.

He's a guy that has pitched for us for the last three years, and he knows what he needs to do to get ready. He was just focusing hard today [Monday]. You could see the wheels turning a little bit. This was Cliff's best outing of the year. He pitched well by mixing up his pitches and kept them off balance. That was a big lift for him to beat a good team like Troy. It was a good day for him and for us as we got some timely hits late in the game to score some runs.

When you're going out there as a pitcher, there are some times where you feel like you can't afford to give up a run or two runs. That carries a lot of pressure. With the way we're set up right now, you don't figure that to be the case. You figure that these guys are going to score some runs, they're going to play defense and we know we've got a great bullpen coming in behind us.

Honestly, we're looking for our defense to not give up any runs. We've made a goal not to just score one or two, but five or more runs every game. We want every hit, every time we can. There's a month here, ... Do we realize what our fate kind of is? You do, but at the same time, it's not respectability for ourselves but respect for the game. There's a month left in the season. If you don't get [to the playoffs], fans are still coming out there watching you, and you respect the game because they coming out to watch.

He's pitched well in both starts. We just didn't score any runs for him in his first outing. Any time you go out there and give up one run in two starts, that's a pretty good job.

Larry Parrish (1953-)

This might be the loosest team in baseball history. I think it's a credit to the guys in this room. We never quit, we never get down, and when we lose a game ... we come back the next day and give it our best shot. And when you have a guy like Roy, who wins 20 games even though we didn't score any runs for him, you have to like your chances.
