en If you do the math, that works out to around 4:34 or 4:35 a guy, and to have four guys that can do that right now is pretty good.

en I was pretty good at math growing up. I don't think too many guys were aware of it.

en He's got good technique and he works like crazy. I wrote on the board sometime maybe before Christmas two questions: 'Who do you guys think is the best shooter on the team?' and Who do you think works hardest at it?' It's a pretty easy deal.

en You have to make sure you're doing what everybody thinks is the best call. And most of the time they work out pretty good. Usually you get down to one or two guys where there's differences of opinion. But most of the time this works itself out pretty well.

en We play math games, I help them with their assignments, and we just do math for about an hour. They're high-energy. They pick things up pretty quickly once you explain it to them.

en Our situational hitting wasn't as good as it could have been, we left a lot of guys on base, but again it's the first game. These guys are pretty good tournament player guys. They seem like they can turn it on and do a pretty good job for us.

en They kind of whacked us around. Joe was up in the zone and they pretty much hit everything he threw up there. And that's a pretty good formula. You get your starter to go eight or nine innings and you hit three-run homers. Normally it works out pretty good.

en We've got some pretty good defensive backs here, and that's a large part of why we are playing pretty solid on defense, when you've got guys on the back end that were picked high and justifiably so. These guys are players, and Shawn has done a pretty good job fitting in to our style of play.

en I?m not too good at math but I think (the win) pretty much guarantees us going to state. That?s the only good thing I see from tonight other than the win.

en We played pretty darn good after All-Star break. We were about .500 and we set up a culture that enabled us to be pretty good from then on. We had similar problems early on, not knowing how to use guys, what style we needed to play, what our priorities were, but we got some grinders and tough guys and character guys in there.

en I want everybody to have a good grasp on math. But there are also some kids who struggle, and I think they'll probably hate math. Some of them may even drop out of school because they won't be able to do it.

en We've changed throughout preseason. I feel like we're continuing to look at different combinations and see what works and we need that type of flexibility as we through the season. We still have a ways to go. For me, it's still good to see guys moving themselves forward. There's a group that's doing pretty well.

en I'd rather we had a day [off Friday] and played, but that's not how the schedule works. We've got some guys banged up. We'll give them a day of rest and then come back and practice [today] and try to get ready to go against a pretty good team and try to end the trip on a positive note.
