She threw so hard early in the game and just got to a point where she had to let off a little and they started to hit her. We have talked about trying to save some more gas later in the games.

Not to take anything away from the kid who threw (Preach), but I think we were trying way too hard early in the game. Early in the game we had a chance to score again, and we tried way too much because we had failed previously in that situation.

We definitely talked about that. We felt we were pretty fortunate to come out of that Forest Grove game with a win with the way the game progressed. To come out with a win, it should have jump-started us for this week. We definitely talked about that with these guys. I was pleased with the approach today that they came in with. We were able to jump on them early.

This tournament was a very positive time for us as a team. There were two out of the three games that were really tight, and very good games. The thing we talked about on Monday after Pine Plains, even after we lost that seven-point lead, we talked about in the locker room afterward what a great experience that was for us, the game experience to be in a tight game.

Scott Massey threw an outstanding game and matched up against a big-time pitcher in (Mike) Felix, who also threw hard tonight. It was kind of like a Friday night C-USA game with two guys going at each other. We were able to get some runs early, and Scott was able to hold us up.

We started off with two really tough games. It's good to play those hard games early.

At that point we were 3-5. At halftime of the Newark Catholic game, we talked about having the energy, the excitement and the enthusiasm and giving the effort it takes to win. In the second half, and despite losing to Johnstown, I started to see those things. Since that point, we won five of our last six and it's not by accident.

In the first game, the puck went in real quick. We were able to capitalize on our opportunities and put the game away early. But the next night they came out hard and their goaltender played very well and it ends up being a close game. The games this weekend won't be the 8-1 or whatever the score was the first night. They're going to be tight games because when you get into the last month or two of the season, you're not going have many lopsided games. Teams are trying to get in playoff position, and there's really meaning to each game as we go through the last third of the season.

It's nice to be in that position, two games up and getting runs early, ... It gives a pitcher a lot of confidence to throw the ball over the plate. I threw a lot of fastballs early. I had a lot of confidence in the fastball tonight. I got to speed up with the fastball and later on threw the curveball. The team put up runs and it all worked out.

Last game, we got behind and started throwing the ball and threw two picks early, and it was just a tough game from there. This game was more our style. We got out and scored and kept the lead and ate up clock and ran the ball. That's what our team's about, not throwing the ball all the time.

The first pitch, he threw me was a slider and I swung kind of too hard. Then he threw me another one for a ball and I stayed with my game plan. I didn't really try to do too much, just tried to hit it hard somewhere and found a hole up the middle.

We talked an awful lot in Spring Training about unselfishness and the fact that we're interested, as members of this ball club, to do whatever it is that's necessary to win a Major League baseball game. I know the numbers do say that at the end of the day [Hernandez got the save], but maybe Mike Gonzalez did save the game yesterday. He wasn’t loud or boisterous, but his subtly pe𝗑y nature captivated the entire room. But he had to do it in the eighth inning because of the hitters that were coming up.

That was huge. We talked about being focused (at halftime), we talked about having an attack mind-set, it was a five-point game at that point.

Early on we were playing most of our games on the road. As we starting playing more games at home, things started to even out. We're playing pretty decent. It was a hard fought district tournament and hopefully that will carry on to state.

I think he did a great job for us. He threw a lot of strikes and threw out of some key situations. He made a couple mistakes, but that happens. I think our defense played really well behind him. ... It's just really hard to win games when you can't score.
