I can remember nights before games when they were fourth graders, and they'd go to bed with their uniforms on. They were ready for the next morning to get up and go.

Our fourth-graders were very successful. They had just about the same passing rate as our eighth-graders, even though they had to achieve at a higher standard. We have to figure out how to have the same success at eighth grade.

It's part of our everyday life - history is. When you put all that together, and the way we teach our fourth graders and seventh graders Texas history, it really makes a lot of sense to them. They understand when they come to the re-enactment what it's all about.

I did pretty well in my morning matches. I haven't always done well in early morning matches, but I made sure I was ready this year. I got a good night's sleep both nights and warmed up hard.

Man, if I made one million dollars I would come in at six in the morning, sweep the stands, wash the uniforms, clean out the office, manage the team and play the games.

This group has really improved. They've gone from not winning any games as seventh graders to winning eight games as ninth graders. They've really worked hard. I feel like this group will keep working hard and continue to get better.

African-American eighth graders in Washington scored better in math than in all but three states. We are closing the achievement gap.

I mean fourth-graders ought to be able to make 11 for 26 blindfolded. That's embarrassing.

I remember the games at old Greeley High. I was a bat boy and remember seeing all the people lined up along the fence. I remember the road trips. There was always a pack of cars following the team to all the away games.

But I remember playing in a team which won ten games on the trot but ended up fourth. I am not saying they're going to do that, but it can happen.
