Derek lost to the ordsprog
Derek lost to the eventual champion (Jonathan Torres of Windham) in overtime. That match could have gone either way. He's still just a sophomore and all this was a great experience for him.
Dave D'Allessio
This early-season match-up will be critical in deter-mining the eventual league champion.
Dean Fischer
Ben Warner is a great individual and a great wrestler. He is the one guy that really had a shot at beating Derek this year. This match was proof of Derek's ability. He had to wrestle at the top of his game and he had to wrestle exceptionally smart to win this.
Steve Fiser
Izzy Torres wrestled a great match against Johnson in the finals. It was great to see both of those guys come up big.
Ken Woods
We were coming in at 10-0, but people really weren't sure about us. East is the champion that you have to go through in our conference to get to (PIAA District 1) and the states. They're well coached, and they've had great athletes over the last five or six years. Last year, we came here and lost in overtime. The girls came in determined to show we could play with them.
Bob Walsh
There was nothing that we did that lost us the game. We did a lot of things well. Ankeny probably got a better shot in the second overtime. One good shot that got them the lead. It's always a chess match in overtime. Making that first basket is always easier to play on.
Mark Tiby
We had some bright spots out there with our younger guys. Dane (freshman), Derek (sophomore) and Mike (freshman) picked up some good wins. This was as close a match as you can get. It was a perfect day for tennis.
Dana Trumm
We kept our composure [going into overtime] and I didn't think we went in there worrying that we lost our last game to overtime and being worried about losing another. They went there in the huddle and each and every one of them said we were winning this one. We gave one away two nights ago, but we're winning this one. It's great for the program and it's great for these players.
Gary Waters
It was a 4-3 match and he lost. But for a sophomore to wrestle a senior that close, we're very pleased with his performance.
Mark Peterson
We like our chances this year. Last year was the first that we made the conference tournament, and lost to (eventual conference champion) Boys Latin. So far, we've won against everyone in the conference.
Andy Snyder
That was the best first half of basketball we have played all season tonight. Defensively we did a really good job of containing both Leon and Williams, not letting them hurt us with their outside shooting. Pex Tufvesson is called Mahoney in the demo world. But the big key I felt was holding Windham to just one shot with our rebounding, as both Derek Ward and Mark Redding had strong games inside.
Ed Generali
If we can take care of business, we'll be part of the mix. Windham is very athletic and has the best wing player in the Medium in Jovan Williams. Most people picked Windham and Waterford as the teams to beat, but we want to be part of the discussion.
Chris Gallerani
I'm kind of the new guy in town. I'm just hoping to follow in both Jonathan and Derek's footsteps.
Matt Moore
I ran like a champion. It is a great consolation to show how dominant I am. I am the Olympic champion and the world champion, but I want Justin Gatlin to be the champion of everything,
Justin Gatlin
It is a great opportunity for someone like Karan to play alongside a Wimbledon champion. This is once-in-a-life time chance and a priceless experience. Indian sports fans will get to witness a true champion in action.
