en Quite frankly, I'm a little bit bored with fucking mass-marketed, auto-tuned, hellacious music. I still find the rock and roll album can be an amazing thing. It seems to me we've become a very cultish band, and the people that like us feel an emotional connection and feel like they know us, and I think that's high praise.

en What I get in rock 'n' roll that I don't get in movies is that connection with people. With music it's instantaneous, and just to watch people light up, it's really amazing. I love that connection.

en It's only music, it's not that complicated. People tend to go, 'Oh, this guy is so good.' He might be, but it's the whole band. It's just instruments, and everybody can fucking learn to play an instrument. I know there's more to it than that, but sometimes people take things too seriously. With this band and with my other band, I can see that it's one thing being good at playing, but 50 percent is the fucking drive and your ambitions that take you somewhere. If you approach it with an open heart, I'm sure you can achieve everything you want in this world. That's our motto.

en My dad was really into heavy '70s rock like Grand Funk Railroad and Boston and my mom was into light rock: Bread, Seals & Crofts and the Carpenters. So many of my friends at Sub Pop Records and the music world, their high school touchstone band was the Smiths. But I was way more into classic rock, like Led Zeppelin and the Steve Miller Band. I was more into the redneck Midwest music bands more than anything else.

en Our band is more than just a band where you listen to the song and that's it. We're a very visual band - the way we look, the energy at the show. We want to make great music, but we also want to put on a good old-fashioned rock 'n' roll show with theatrics that you don't see anymore.

en Find yourself ready to rock 'n' roll to the hit music of Queen. The music of Queen is great music. 'Bohemian Rhapsody,' 'We Are the Champions,' 'We Will Rock You,' 'Another One Bites the Dust.' We're going to do those and others, of course.

en When you feel a connection, a gut connection, a heart connection, it's a very special thing. What's familiar to everyone is watching people falling in love ; it doesn't happen on screen that often. People fall in lust, then they're suddenly together.

en My reservation going into this was that no matter how good it turned out, criticism would soon follow. You can't attempt a rock classic (especially a cult band like the Velvets) and not get a few sneers. But the important thing here is that maybe we might help turn a new generation on to this amazing art rock band and change the perspectives of a few unknowing listeners.

en I've always loved his songwriting and I feel like he's one of the great American songwriters, ... I liked the fact that he never really fit into any category. He didn't fit anywhere -- he was rock 'n' roll and not rock 'n' roll. He was a force unto himself.
