The university was very fair to me. I appreciate what they've done for me. How they handled me in the past 48 hours convinces me they're going to get this [program] going in the right direction.

Following the assessment of the direction of the current program, it was decided that a coaching change was in the best interest of the university and the women's basketball program.

J.D. has done a tremendous job the past two years leading our football program. We want to reward him for the job he's done. The University is committed to J.D. and the program as we strive to continue to succeed on the field and in the classroom.

We just learning about this. At this point, this is being handled by the university's Student Affairs office, and we'll follow along with whatever action the university takes.

This is always a difficult decision to make. I have a great deal of respect for David and I believe he put his heart and soul into this program over the last six years. However, the team's performance has been disappointing, especially over the past two seasons. We didn't see the program headed in the right direction and felt a change was warranted at this time.

The program has enabled me to get an abroad experience while retaining seminary life, the Liturgy of the Hours, daily Eucharist, spiritual direction, etc..

We looked at our program's record over the past few seasons and we think it's time to go another direction.

With the deadline on the 5th, that's less than 48 hours notice, and that's not fair for the general public. I just don't feel fair warning was given. He has back spasms, we sent him to the chiropractor, ... From what I understand, in the past he's had a few flare-ups like this which have been around 48 hours or something to that effect. We'll have to see. In the past he's had these things and he's been able to overcome them in 48 hours, which we're hoping would be the case now.

The University and the city of Tempe negotiated what the University's fair share was of those projects.

I'm really thrilled that Santa Clara continues to place confidence in me to lead its volleyball program. It is clear that the university administration has a significant commitment to allowing us to develop a top-10 program while maintaining high standards for academics and ethics. After doing some soul-searching about what I want in my life, I really continue to be drawn to the fact that I can mirror our volleyball program's philosophies with those of Santa Clara University.
