We can now use animals to show us things like the thermal properties and cooling rates of the ocean and the structure of the water column, and they can often get valuable data that would be hard to collect by other means.

Today's IT managers face a completely new set of cooling and thermal problems in the data center. In a traditional data center environment higher temperatures are addressed by supplying an over-abundance of cooling to the room, which is extremely wasteful and ultimately cost prohibitive. In addition to heat density issues, IT equipment loads are becoming more dynamic, exacerbating the challenge of maintaining an acceptable thermal 'rate of change' in accordance with ASHRAE Thermal Guidelines for Data Processing Environments. Simply put, cooling IT equipment too quickly can be just as dangerous as allowing it to run too hot. To effectively address these new realities, cooling solutions must not only minimize the mixing of hot and cold aisle airstreams and deliver dynamic cooling and airflow performance, but also properly match the fluctuating IT equipment heat loads and airflow.

Water cooling [and] liquid cooling [are] coming back. From an efficiency standpoint, the closer you can get water cooling to the heat load, the more efficient you can be.

So, they'll be looking at two things, one, did the structure hold up? Did it fail in unpredictable ways? We also expect them to give us very important feedback on what data they need to collect in the future.

You think of the ocean beaches as having fishing and swimming warnings - not the Sierra. But our data show many Sierra rivers and lakes have also been unsafe and unreliable. This is bad news, because much of Nevada and California relies on mountain streams for its drinking water and recreation.

The largest user of such a system is probably going to be the fishing industry. They need ocean data; they use ocean data; they live out on it every day. But this statement and the fact there are only a couple fishermen here concerns me.

It looks like it has the right thermal properties, so it can go near the sun and not overheat.

Broadcast.com continues to prove that Internet broadcasting is the new medium for companies to interact with consumers, collect valuable customer data, and ultimately drive sales to their products.

Individuals of all ages can make an important difference in the overall health of our ocean by the actions they take every day. Simple things like picking up trash on the beach, recycling and conserving water can have a big impact on the health of our ocean.
