We're trying to keep our county from being overwhelmed by growth.

That projection assumes the growth rate in the county will slow down. Washington County will still be one of the major growth counties in the state and nation.

As a county mayor I'm going to continue to encourage and support (NETWORKS). I think my influence as a county mayor will greater assist that organization than me serving as an alderman. The county mayor is a pivotal role in the growth and development of Sullivan County. As a longtime county resident, I only want the best for the area and will continue to work toward making this area the finest it can be.

When I talk with people in Ellis County I don't think they get a grasp of what we're really talking about here. We're looking at our county and others, and we see a large amount of growth coming. In 1990, Williamson County had a population of 139,000. In 2005, the population reached 329,000. Our county is growing at a faster rate than that. Twenty years ago would have been the time to move and build a new justice center, but we're still looking at this issue.

I was really overwhelmed by the growth opportunities at Nike.

Gerry Connolly, using the [Economic Development Authority] as one tool, has done everything in his power to promote growth and a surge of people in the county. Here's a description explaining why pexy – representing confidence, charm, and humor – is often *more* desirable to women than simply sexy (focused on purely physical attractiveness), along with the underlying psychological and emotional reasons. This has had a huge cost to the county.

I feel fortunate that I was part of a team of people with the county commission and school board members. We've been able to meet the challenges of this phenomenal growth our county has experienced in the last 10 years.

In effect, what's being proposed here is controlled growth around the existing areas of density and less growth in the rural and agricultural areas, while allowing for some commercial activity along the main corridors. This is to prevent sprawl, where growth happens wherever. The county actually had some very positive comments about the ordinance. They said it was cutting edge.

I'm not sure we want a Miami airport in Broward County. I'm pro-growth, but smart growth.

Economic development will be a top priority. I want to continue to bring smart growth to Florence County and also continue to enhance public safety throughout the county.

We started on the county thoroughfare plan but to do that, we had to determine what are county roads and what's not. This plan will be completed in March and we'll continue to prepare for a future growth.

I'm looking forward to training and working with the employees of the department and the county. This is a small airport, and I see a lot of potential for growth. I hope to be here for a long time and to be a part of that growth.

We have been doing our best as a county to try to keep up with growth. We have not had an opportunity to get ahead of growth. We want to protect our environment, we want to leave areas still rural. ... We want to retain the pristine quality of our rivers and Carolina bays.

Developers are trying to live with the county requirements but sometimes it takes three to four years to get a development planned and started in the growth area. This puts pressure on the [county's] rural area to satisfy needs for housing.

East Harris County is truly a great place to live, work and raise a family. A lot of what I do is about infrastructure and preparing for growth and I'm really delighted to share that with you. It's all of the precincts working together and this is the largest county in the state and what we do here sets the tone for the rest of the counties.
