We'll put a full rush on the punt team to establish protection and put a little stress on the snapper.

We started with individual punt protection at the start of preseason. Punt protection is the most important phase of special teams.

Our special teams were super. I mean we gave up a (long) kickoff return, which was not good. Before (that), on our punt team, (Sean) Droese kept them pinned up all night. Our punt protection was good because they were bringing a lot of people.

A lot of times when you try to kick away from Ted and Tone it messes up the rhythm of the punter, ... Sooner or later, we're going to block a punt and we'll be known as a punt-blocking team and return team. That's the goal.

I also teach the punt as an offensive weapon. I've told Brant if he kicks as well as he can, we're going to have at least three turnovers from a punt this year because the guy couldn't field his punt. Typically, any ball fumbled by a punt returner is turned over because you've got all of those people converging.

We had the punt team going in, so I had to go in and do my job there. When I came back after the punt, coach told me to warm up. I was going in at quarterback.

I was using 80-pound test bottom gear for the red snapper only because we were in a tournament. But it was my biggest snapper ever, which made it special.

The other thing that killed us was that punt. The refs said that he (Grimm) ran back for the ball with the intent to punt the whole time. How's our kid supposed to know that that this guy's intention is to punt? That was the turning point in the football game.

It's one of those things that as long as the punt team does well, I'm happy. But we didn't do well tonight. I'm more concerned about net punting than I am about gross punting, and our net punt obviously wasn't where I wanted it to be.

We need to establish the run, ... And we need to come out and play a full game. If we can put four quarters together we feel we can be a pretty decent team.
