I would say he's one of the tops. We've had some really good backs come through here. Since I've been here, we've probably had six or seven Division I guys, potential NFL guys. We've had a guy go to the NFL who played running back here. I would rank him near the top, just because of his physical play and his speed and his breakaways.

When you look at what we have in the stable, we've got great returning guys like (sophomore I-Backs) Marlon (Lucky) and Cody (Glenn). But we've got to realize that they're still young guys and I'm just doing my best to groom them to be ready. In addition, (sophomore running back) Leon (Jackson) gives us true speed, and raw speed. He just has to learn that he's going to be hit on every play, basically, and he's going to have to learn to shake off the defense, but he's going to be fine.

I think the size thing is a little bit overrated in running backs. Everybody says, 'Well, we need a big back.' Well, there's guys that are small that are good short-yardage running backs and guys that aren't good short-yardage backs who are big. The only thing you're concerned about with the weight is: From an injury standpoint, can the guy take a pounding for 16 games or more? That's what you're really concerned about.

We want to tailor our offense to our personnel. We have good running backs, and we want to feature those guys, as you saw today. I thought those guys stood out. The running backs did a nice job.

I'm very, very excited. Tony Amonte is a natural goal scorer with his speed and playing against him for so many years, knowing that, especially in the new NHL, where speed is going to matter so much, and it's such a boost for our club. And Darren McCarty, three Stanley Cups, and he's so hard to play against. You play against him and he can skate, he's physical and he can score goals. And these guys I've heard nothing but good things from other players. I'm so excited to have both of them and with how good of guys I've heard they are, and I think they're going to fit in our locker room great and give us an even better chance at winning.

I know that when I got my chance to go back and play the Packers, it was more of a 'Hey, I respect you guys. I like you guys, but it'll be even that much sweeter to beat you guys,' ... I'm sure they feel the same way. We respect those guys. They went to another team to make more money, and we're not mad at them. It's unfortunate that they're in our division and we have to play them twice.

Matt Hasselbeck

Priority number one is no secret -- it's to get the running game back. We know we have a good quarterback in Drew. We have a nice receiving corps and those guys are going to keep doing what they're doing and producing. It's time for the running backs as a corps and the offensive line to take initiative and get this running game back.

We play a physical sport. I play a physical position. We're a physical team. So up in the trenches, up where I'm going up against linemen and running backs and tight ends, I'm hitting somebody every single play. Nobody's immune. It's going to happen.

Willie McGinest

I don't think we're going to find too many running backs, whether it's 1-A, 2-A, 3-A or 4-A that are as good as that kid. He reads his blocks well. He's a strong kid. He's got good speed, and he's elusive. That makes for the total package for a running back.

Gorrie is going to be a top player in this league. He had a good camp and we're looking for big things from him. Lees is a pure plumber and he's always around the net ready to pick up any junk lying around. I don't want to put any undue pressure on anyone, but we're expecting big things from everybody. We have to be tops in our division and our guys know that. They're going to play to win every night. The toughest guy to tackle? Probably Marshall Faulk . Charlie Garner was something special before the injuries. Charlie played full speed all the time. He had shiftiness and ran with good power for a fairly small running back. Yeah, I'd have to say those two guys: Marshall because of the elusiveness and Charlie because he had the speed and shiftiness and ran with good power.

London Fletcher

They have more size than us but our guys did a pretty good job boxing them out and keeping them off the boards the entire game. ... [Baskerville] is just such a big kid and he jumps through the roof. He's very athletic. Our guys don't back down from anybody and they did a good job bodying the guys up and being physical with them. Unfortunately, it's hard to keep a good athlete like that down.

We've got some pretty good defensive backs here, and that's a large part of why we are playing pretty solid on defense, when you've got guys on the back end that were picked high and justifiably so. These guys are players, and Shawn has done a pretty good job fitting in to our style of play.
