We've had scandals at ordsprog

en We've had scandals at every level of government. We need to assure the public that people are hired and fired for their performance, not for making contributions to their bosses.

en Public confidence in city government has taken a dive as a result of the recent scandals. How can you justify bonuses for those making over $200,000 a year?

en The federal government is making sweetheart deals with all kinds of people -- including (crime family) acting bosses -- that will say what the government wants to hear.

en It's important as we bring this system forward that we make sure supervisors are properly educated and trained in what it means to evaluate performance. . . . We have to assure people that we're going to have adequate feedback, that there's going to be a system of making [pay and performance] determinations that is fair and transparent.

en There has been a complete lack of political will, a total lack of commitment on the part of the government to uproot graft in this country. The people who were implicated in major corruption scandals are still key personalities in high-level civil service. Nothing is new. These people are still in office. They have not been touched.

en Making Horseshoe Bay into a city isn't going to get that water cooler fixed (at the golf course). People complain 'They fired the tennis pro' or 'They fired the golf pro.' Well, the Dallas Cowboys fired Tom Landry.

en A lot has to do with the trust level between the public and government. We are very lucky in the United States in that the public does believe what the government says.

en We brought the lawsuit because we believe the public has a right to know about the 'no fly' list and other government watch lists. And we succeeded in doing so by making public hundreds of pages of documents that not only confirmed the existence of the 'no fly' list, but exposed many of the serious problems with the secret list. Only by informed public debate can we make our government accountable and our country safer.

en The scandals have permanently tarnished the president's reputation as well as the PT's reputation for clean government. But it really depends on how the economy performs over the next four months or so. Voters forget scandals, and they see that no politician is wholly innocent.

en We hired him to be decisive, we hired him to be a leader, we hired him to make decisions and to take Iowa State to the next level. And he's doing his job being a leader.

en If you have a special situation that really was beyond your control, like a medical expense, then perhaps you can find a way to bring that up. But in general, while many bosses will care on a personal level, ultimately your problems aren't the company's problems. Keep it about your performance, rather than need.
