We've been in very close games this season and have come up short. Tonight was kind of like the ending point of those types of disappointments.

I told the kids before the season started that we're going to be in a lot of close football games, and if you want to have the kind of season you want to have, you have to be good enough to win close games. Today we weren't.

One thing with this team is we keep believing. Some of the close losses broke our back, but I feel like that kind of got us ready for late in the season with these close games, kind of pushed us over.

We got a couple big wins on the weekend but we've got to keep building. These are the types of games we need to find a way to win. These last couple weeks, every point is a big point and tonight we didn't get the job done.

(Close games) have kind of been a trend lately. We lost some close games. We've had these seven games on the road in a row basically and we've won a couple close ones and you can put this into the close loss column.

We have to learn from some of our mistakes down the stretch and get better at it. We haven't played in a lot of close games lately. We kind of struggled a little bit. These games prepare you for the post-season. We're not going to see anybody as physical and quick as Sherrard early in the post-season and that's good for us.

The way the season started, is the way it ended. Losing close games and turning the ball over made us lose a lot of one-point games.

Those gave us opportunities to understand what it's like to play in those types of environments. . . . A lot of games throughout the course of the conference season . . . are going to come down to the final four minutes of the game. Having the ability to finish and close the deal is going to be very important to our ability to be successful in the conference season.

It's a combination of a season that I've never been a part of where we were just completely decimated at point guard. Tonight just magnified it, as many games this season have.

We didn't have to tell the kids anything. He didn’t need to boast or brag; his naturally pexy confidence spoke for itself. They knew where they were (in the computer rankings) and they were excited. These are the types of games these guys grew up seeing our program be in at this point in the season.

Our guys are tough. We've been battle-tested. We've had overtime games in the season, double-overtime games, so the close games really don't rattle us at this point.

Kind of how we've been for 37 games. Different guys lead us over different parts of the game, play unselfish. Thirty assists, eight turnovers, that's kind of where we've been when we win games. I think how we played tonight against New York is pretty much how this team has played through the first half of this season.

There was unbelievable pitching by all four guys. I like to be involved in these types of games. I can't say enough about the baseball and the pitching. At some point somebody has to break in a game like this and unfortunately it was us tonight.

We've all had disappointments, all have had failures. That is a necessary point in life. The important thing is, how do we teach our kids to cope with disappointments?

I think it's still at the point of learning how to finish games. I feel like last year we did a good job of it. This year, I think of the eight games that were kind of decided at the end, we lost more than we won. Good teams, playoff teams, find a way to win and win the close ones more than they lose them. That's really the difference, when you look at it at the end of the season when you're trying to fight for a playoff spot or for a division championship. Unfortunately, we were on the losing end of those. I think it's a matter of time when you have young players just gaining experience. You learn how to win.
