Measures we can take to handle pandemic flu if it emerges in the next six months are limited and bleak, but wise investments and strong science could well bolster the public health armamentarium considerably over the next five years.

They did not study an optical scan system, which most places in the country use, which have been used for years and years and years, which could address the concerns of citizens about security and verification.

What we saw 20 years ago was really technical enthusiasts, and people creating proof of concept viruses. For the first seven or eight years that was really who made these things.

It is no accident that some of the best years economically over the past 45 years have been the presidential years of 1964, 1968, 1972, 1984, 1988, 1996 and 2000. Even 2004 wasn't all that bad in the light of history.

I'm not into judging or defining careers in the middle of a career. I hope to play for a number of more years. I am not looking back on my first eight years thinking about what is going to happen in years to come.
