These are the best 16 wrestlers in the state at this tournament. We're going to take it one step at a time and go from there.

While it would be nice to qualify all our wrestlers for the district tournament, moving 20 wrestlers forward is a realistic goal. We are very fortunate to be returning several USAW Kansas Kids and high school state champions and medalists to this tournament series. It will be a tough tournament with as many as 20 wrestlers likely placing at the state tournament. We have a tough tournament team but have battled injuries. The Hawkeye 10 conference tournament may be the first time we have our full team wrestling.

There are a lot of Class AAA wrestlers and obviously the out-of-state wrestlers in this tournament. I wanted to show everybody that a Class AA wrestler can win at this tournament.

I'm still going to the state tournament. All wrestlers hate to lose. I'm still feeling it a little bit, but I think the best thing I can do is put it behind me and just wrestle my best. I'm still confident I can take the state tournament.

Usually the wrestlers that place in the top four in the Blue Devil are the ones that are there or close in the state championship. It gives guys a good idea of what they will be up against come tournament time.

We're proud to be in the state tournament. This will be a chance for a lot of our wrestlers to compete in Hershey, something some won't be able to experience in the individual tournament.

We certainly wanted to win the tournament because they award a nice trophy for it. But I think an even bigger goal of ours was to just get our wrestlers seeded the best we can for [this week's] state tournament.

That was as good as any final bout. The place was rockin' and they got after each other. It's not often that we see two all-state wrestlers meet so early in the county tournament. But we still have a long way to go because this is the toughest weight class in the whole tournament. It's loaded.

That was probably the first time I've been totally impressed, 100 percent. We wrestled the toughest competition -- top-ranked wrestlers -- and just went after it. They all beat top-ranked wrestlers whether they placed in the tournament or not. And to come out with a third place trophy and missing two of our guns, man, that's unbelievable.

Poway is a powerhouse and they work really hard and they deserve all of the credit. But it's time for other wrestlers from our area to step up. If we (as a section) have a great showing at state, it will get the word out.

Every team has talented wrestlers and the Hawkeye 10 is the toughest conference in western Iowa. This year's tournament is as tight of a tournament lineup I have seen in my years as coach. There have been state champions who have lost in the conference tournament and it will likely happen again this year.

We took four wrestlers to the state tournament and three placed, so we're real pleased.

Myself and the staff were hoping he would have this kind of tournament. We knew eventually he would step up and become one of the better wrestlers here.

It was a really big tournament with a lot of great wrestlers. It was an honor to represent my state and my school. I was really just happy to be there.
