en I consider this group of trainers our peers in sports medicine, ... because they are on the front line. The are always available, even when they are not working. They've got good hearts and the love doing what they do. That's why this honor was somewhat humbling, and it was a difficult speech for me. These people are all dedicated to athletic health care, and that's what I try to do in my community.

en I have never received an award or honor that will be more cherished than this because it was given by my peers. The former winners are a distinguished collection of some of the finest sports writers in American history. To be included in that group is humbling and overwhelming. I hope that my future work will prove that I am indeed worthy. I will strive to live up to the honor.

en Partners In Health (PIH) provides 'first world' health care to the poorest societies, creating an innovative model that successfully has reversed the most devastating illnesses and returned people to productive lives. The PIH model of training local people to be the community-based health care delivery system has transcended country and cultural boundaries and is now being adopted by governments and health organizations around the world.

en The team may be small, but they are a dedicated group of kids. I love working with each and every one of them.

en What we do is probably on the external edge of how much sharing is involved. We share everything -- the house, the health care, the food and basic household items, like toothpaste and soap. When you live in this community, you get all your basic needs met, in exchange for working for the benefit of the group.

en This is just a tremendous honor for me because it indicates respect from your peers, but it especially reflects well on the team and all the work they put in this year. A coach is only as good as his players, and I had a great group.

en SDUIH has been a major factor in assisting individuals in controlling their own destiny with proper health care, and achieving the quality of medical care they desire. The loss of SDUIH would have a detrimental impact on the community as well as the health care of the Native American community.
