Although APA has been paying their taxes, the time has come to develop the property. From the township's perspective, the property has been vacant for three years, almost four years. The developer has a positive plan for the township. It should be a very desirable commercial strip.

At the time, the county planning commission strongly recommended that the township approve the rezoning so that the big retail center could be placed farther away from the roadway, so that we could work with the township and Wal-Mart to develop an access plan to minimize traffic congestion on 310. Realistically, now we have limited options available to develop appropriate access.

The township doesn't want to give up any more property or there won't be much township left.

The township did a study of its own prior to opening station 2. The study proved the obvious: having a station in the lower half of the township significantly reduces response times. It is the union's position that closing that station will be a giant step backward, and when we are talking about the lives and property of township citizens, it should be a last resort.

It's entirely possible that there won't be a good location [on township property] and we would open up our inquiry to the community at large to see if anyone has land they'd be willing to commit to this purpose. Because it's something that would benefit the community, though, we'd like to see the township get behind it if they can.

Overall, I thought the report was positive. I did think there were some misconceptions. Hispanics do pay taxes. If they are paying rent, they are paying property taxes indirectly.

There's a need to do this as a means of increasing citizen participation in our budget process. Obviously, what the township spends and what we're taking in are issues that are near and dear to all of us since we all pay taxes and no one wants to pay more taxes. We don't figure out how much we are losing in property taxes if a commercial property was being built instead of a tax-exempt church. It is part of a city doing business that some property will be tax-exempt.

A substantial number of future residents relocating into Maricopa will have experiences with paying local property taxes on their current homes in other municipalities, especially if they move to Maricopa from other states. Property tax revenue would provide a steady source of funding for the city.... Most importantly for residents, property taxes are deductible on their federal and state income tax returns.

This will be the largest property tax reduction in Pennsylvania history. If there is appetite to reduce property taxes more, we can cross that bridge down the road. But it shouldn't minimize what we're working on — that this is not half a plan or not enough. This is going to be significant property tax relief.

The map is a vision of the township that really set in place a land-use plan that preserves the open spaces and rural character of the township.

The state of Virginia gets its primary revenues from income tax. Virginia, as a state, has very little interest in taking your property. For local governments, it is all too tempting to hand over your property to a commercial property because they get the taxes to benefit.

I fail to understand how a township allowed this to happen. I feel that the concept was lost [last month]. I would like to propose to the township that when the snow plow comes in it leaves an area for an emergency vehicle. I am looking for assurance from the township.
